Yes I am christian. But they originate from honor of Saint worship - st valentines day or feast of st valentine ( st valentinus among others) so we see it as a form of idolatry and false worship where as the bible says worship and honor belongs only to God. 😊

Sorry, What don't you understand? I was explaining the origins of St Valentines Day and why I don't celebrate it.

I do. It's a very literal interpretation of the bible.

This led me to actually do a bit of googling about the origins of st Valentine. It's actually a lovely story.

So you dont think the bible is being literal when it says worship belongs only to God? You are of course entitled to your opinion on whether you think its ok to celebrate Valentines day or not Just curious. I think the bible is pretty clear on keeping that worship pure. Jesus was very clear on this matter of honor being bestowed upon humans and human rulers when it belongs to God. Im not going to quote scriptures but you can look them up easily enough.

Of course the commercial aspect is another reason.

That's what I don't understand. Worship of what only belongs to God? Sorry I'm not being argumentative, I'm Catholic and believe in God and heaven but that's where my beliefs / knowledge of things end.

The part about honour being bestowed upon humans, etc sounds like another language almost I actually don't understand what it means.

Just a card. I got him one but he forgot, though I think he's planning on getting something later (we are out with the kids watching him play cricket). It didn't bother me that he didn't get a card, I just really wanted to get him one

Just to be clear I have zero interest in disagreeing with you.

I know Christians who draw a distinction between honouring and worshipping. Honouring is done by remembering or acknowledging eg by taking saints names for confirmation or by praying to certain saints for different things. Worshipping is done through mass.

They would see your views as a more literal interpretation.

Neither matter to me. I was curious so I asked. My response was without a hint of snark. I am not able to give you my interpretation as I haven't looked at the bible for about 35 years.

Many Christians do not pray or worship Saints as this is seen as against Gods word. The bible states "do not worship any other God but me". Catholics will pray to Saints to ask for help but do not worship Saints. Some Christians do not recognise Saints at all and any worship or prayer is seen as worshiping a fake God.
So Valentines Day is from St Valentine which is not recognised in some Christians beliefs. Celebrating it would be worshiping a fake God.
