Just looked up if kindy is compulsory on the sa.gov.au site. Apparently it's not
Kindy is not compulsory. However, Gov. kindy program as well as early learning centers programs help kids to have easy transition to full time schooling. Most of the primary schools (public or private) attend the kindy to observe the child before starting school. Some will contact teacher over the phone if only 1 or 2 coming from that kindy. At the end of the kindy, you will get a very detail report about your child. Copy of that report is also send to the school your child is attending.
I might be wrong, I somewhat remember you are going to send your child to a private school. If it is the case, I would check with that school. You might want to send your child a kindy or ELC where others are going.
In any case, visit few places around you (or closer to the chosen primary school). Some in the area are offering first round places now. I am not too much worry about one educator, if you are comfortable with director (or teacher) that would be fine. Talk to director, visit the place.
@hksl, my DDs kindy has been great with transition to school. They have kids from the local primary school come to kindy and vice versa, I definitely wouldn't recommend sending any child straight to school
