    Default Kindy and working hours

Hi folks.... My DD wil be starting Kindy next year (in Qld) and the issue of how to juggle this with working hours is coming up. Currently she (and my other one year old DD) both go to Childcare - this of course has long day care hours, so my work hours (8.30-5, 3 days a week) are covered no problem. However, in Qld, kindy hours are, generally, 8.30-2.30 x 2 days per week, and 8.30-2.30 on a third day every alternate week (don't get me started on how odd that is!)
Anyway, the childcare centre the older DD is currently at has a kindy program that also offers outside kindy hours care, where the kindy kids can just go back to he Childcare centre for the remainder of the afternoon after the kindy program ends for the day. That would work well, but unfortunately I'm not getting a great vibe out of their Kindy program. I've seen 2 excellent local kindys I would much prefer her to go to... But as far as I can see there are no outside hours care programs attached to them 😠. It's all very frustrating... Does any one have any great ideas in how they manage their full time working days and silly kindy hours? Or have any suggestions of good kindys in the Southside of Brisbane that do have outside hours care available?

I don't really have any answers but I agree with you, kindy hours SUCK.

I'm just fortunate I'll be on leave all year so I can cope with them, otherwise I'd have no choice but to keep DD in childcare + their kindy program. Which is okay but I like the stand alone kindy we've chosen for her.

Does the kinder have any kind of before or after hours care arrangements, maybe with a local school? The other alternative might be to see if one of the other parents would be willing to do drop off and pick up for some extra cash?

Could you get someone to look after DD after kindy?

Does the existing daycare offer an afternoon daycare rate is if someone could get DD there from 3-6pm could they charge you 1/2 day?

Or could you shorten your days but work an extra day? Say 9-2 for 4 days pw ( it will mean extra day in daycare so extra costs)

Mitchelton kindy has the option of 2 x long days per week instead of the 5 day fortnight plus before and after school care, but that doesn't help you because you need southside.

I've done some googling and found that Yeronga kindy offers before and after school care. Not sure if that is near you or not!

Still eligible for benefits, scary thing is after rebate ( and after school care fee added) it's actually cheaper than my daycare/ kindy

C and K at Tarragindi also offers long day care.

My dd went to a Good start and they ran the kindy curriculum from 9 - 3 4 days a week but it was within a long daycare setting. Dd had a really great teacher who followed the kids lead.

Does it? That's where we actually have her enrolled at if she doesn't continue at the current day care!
