Well I had my 2nd HCG blood test at 7am yesterday. I asked them 'will I get the results today?' ....no was the reply. Tomorrow perhaps??

Anyway, this morning my little munchkin/s decided to keep me awake for hours ...Telling me loud and clear 'Hello! I am here!' I couldn't get comfy... can't lie on my right side for some reason, it just really tugs on my abdomen. DH reckons 'get used to it... more sleepless nights ahead!' Oh he is just so comforting at times!!! Not.

Just wondering if any Brissie girls or lurkers have suggestions for Obs in Brisbane? We aren't confident about the medical facilities here so will likely go to Brisbane for the birth. Got to think ahead as they tend to book up fast. Any suggestions appreciated.

Apparently lying on your left is best for bubby, brings more blood flow to the uterus. I also couldnt lie on my right, I'd get cramps.

I went to the Mater Mothers Private hospital and used Dr Alex Alexander, he is a lovely doctor and performed a perfect c-section for me, my scar healed well and he is highly regarded by most nurses I spoke with. His fees are around the same as most O.B's plus his clinic is just across the road from Mater.

This is the link to the Mater O.B's available, I chose that hospital in case something happened and I was in the right place. There are videos of the doctors so you can see which one you like.

I correspond to professor stefanos Syrkos only in english so can't say I have a language issue . He also corresponds with my Fs & obstetrician in English .I guess because I have a blood issue called mthfr , it's a bit tricky so We have had to do a bit of homework on that issue to & going with an academic so they can learn from the disorder & Liase with world specialists on the topic was part of my decision making process .

My issue is that I conceive naturally ( yes even at 47 ) but can't sustain the pregnancy due to the dna malfunction it appears ! I would have liked to have known this 10 years ago , but dr Lynn Burneister picked the issue up when I saw her late last year .
The professor I'm working with lectures at Melb Uni & was from Melbourne originally .There are comments that the Aussie's get a financial kick back -all my meds are getting sorted through by obstetrician dr Barabash . Although he knows my clinician he hasn't administered drugs for an overseas programme before but my FS dr lyn Burmeisters said once protocol decided that's fine for him to sort for us - so he is not taking money as he's fine with either Lynn or himself writing up the relevant scripts & only wanted to help in any way after dealing with me after a traumatic miscarriage (after seeing a very strong heartbeat at 8 weeks my very first heartbeat ) we weren't even trying to get pregnant which was the irony as had been told by Lynn go get a donor & gave me several options of where to go .

No pressure from my obs to deal with Greece whatsoever , he's glad I'm working with someone he knows personally & professionally . He said he would help in anyway he could for us to achieve a take home baby .

I believe it's popular with the Greeks ( Mary koutsas went there to ) & if you go in not knowing anyone then a less daunting clinic might be the go for some . I'm of Italian decent so my strategy is also to fit with someone along those blood lines hence open to clinic for those reasons to . My hubbiey is fair haired , tall , blue eyed & have the option of going for a donor of my choice in terms of Height colour etc so don't worry about that @Goldcoastie

Dr Stefanos has said it is true Genesis can feel like it's impersonal as its a larger organisation , but facility wise has more equipment & resources . He praised ikantro as although more boutique is personal & individualised . I'm going with who has the best match for me & can handle my mthfr issue best at this point - with dr Syrkos holding my hand on this one .

Thanks for the meds advise everyone , I'm a bit of a planner ( my job title is "merchandise planner " so cannot help it !)

Lots to plan now ... Flights , accomodation , work , etc etc etc
Hi Lucky8 - as someone who went to Genesis, and didn't have a great time if it, it sounds to me like the way you're doing it would solve the problems I had. My problems related to not getting service from Dr Pantos and his undignified painful ultrasound technique (and you're seeing a different doctor with whom you're already developing rapport and he's giving good service), the patient coordinator gave conflicting information about meds and appointments and didn't return calls (but you're dealing direct with your Dr so it's different).

Naturally Iakentro will be more personal as its smaller, but even if it turns out that Genesis has the best donor option, it sounds like your Dr might have the shortfalls of Genesis handled leaving only the good stuff - all good!

    Good luck!

Thanks @Yasna! Actually we were just looking at Dr Alexander's profile last night. My DH is pretty concerned about our choice of Obs as he had a bad experience with the birth of his last child... and the lack of paediatric care/support/facilities here. I've heard Brisbane Mater Mothers is the best.

Where did you go for your 12 week nuchal scan? Is it far from his clinic?

    Hey Cherry

For my 12 week scan I went to Sunnybank Women's Diagnostic Centre, excellent equipment and really nice sonographer. It was the first time I saw my boy doing cartwheels!!

For my 20 week scan I was referred by Dr Alex to The Sunnybank Fetal Medicine Unit, where I received some wonderful images and CD for my Anomaly scan. He said that they have superior scanning equipment there.

Dr Alex is a very serious kind of guy, but knows how to have a laugh. I trusted him explicitly. Dr Alex is Lebanese and has worked in his area for many years. He's very good at performing c-sections from what I heard from the nurses. I liked that he was very relaxed and confident, plus I just felt comfortable with him. Much the same as with Dr Nikos, I had an instant liking for him. I found it really hard to chose an O.B and I'm glad I chose him. He came to visit me the day after I had my baby and was amazed that I was standing up doing stuff ! Perhaps when you are in Brisbane, go and visit him and see how you feel? Its all very personal, but I really liked his rapport and his professionalism.

    Hi Lucky 8
Maybe Lyn is recommending Genesis because Dr Nick (also Monash's cousin) owns Genesis. Just to make you aware.
I've heard negative stuff from the EDA girls about Genesis.

Mmmm .... my understanding is that Dr Lyn and her former mentor Dr Nick aren't exactly on great terms - so I'd be inclined to think that if Dr Lyn is referring someone specifically to Dr Syrkos who services multiple clinics (not to Genesis clinic per se and which is owned by Dr Nick's mate Dr Pantos) then you could trust her referral to be genuine not a 'scratch my back' scenario - she doesn't seem that type either!
