Default Fluff thread - What do you think about call waiting?

So it drives me absolutely mad that I'll be on the phone to my mum in the middle of a story and she says "oh hang on, I have call waiting" and she attends to the call and says (I know this because she does it to me) "hi, can I call you back, I'm just on the phone to X". I find it soooooo rude, but I'm not sure if that's just me and everyone else leaves the current call to attend to the next one? Maybe it's an age thing, she has been using a phone for a lot longer than answering machines / voicemail and even caller ID were around so wouldn't have known who called if she didn't answer that call. I'm not going to refuse to speak to her on the phone or anything but just wondering if anyone else finds it really rude?

I find things like call waiting generally pretty outdated so it's not surprising our parents generation still clings to it.

in the days of mobiles and caller ID and voicemail, it seems a pretty redundant thing to still be using.

just to clarify, so you find it rude she interrupts your convo to take the other call? but she comes back to you right?

I'd prob be a bit offended if I was in the middle of a d&m and my mum took a call waiting call, but if we were just chatting I'd prob not let it bother me.

If im talking to someone and i get a call on call waiting i do glance to see who it is. If its daycare, school or DH i will answer to check if its urgent then return to original call.

I hope im not perceived as being rude

Yeah that's right, she comes back to me but I do find it rude. Or maybe just poor etiquette, I'm not hugely pi$$ed off or anything, I just feel a bit like when you're talking to someone and they start texting someone else or playing on their phone, like the other person / thing is more important than you.

^^^ this. Otherwise I decline the incoming call and call them back later. I can't remember the last time I was on the phone and someone put me on hold to take call waiting!

I dislike call waiting. I have voicemail. If it is important they will leave a message.

yeah I tend to agree. but then I and my family all have a tendency to do this anyway.

dh won't even answer urgent questions of mine when he's on the phone to someone else. I find it soooo frustrating lol
