Default Dealing with unpopular opinions *trigger warning*

    Good evening hubbers,
My BIL and his wife are staying with DP and tonight my head almost exploded with rage when he started spouting his unpopular opinion about reforming welfare in Australia. The most offensive part was his belief that if you choose to have a baby with a disability that is identified prior to birth you should not receive any form of Centrelink help in raising that child. His reasoning being that you can choose to terminate the pregnancy.
I wanted to tear strips out of him but find this such an emotive topic that it brings me to tears. I'm a ftm with a seven week old perfectly healthy baby, but view myself as exceedingly lucky to have her.
So I think I just wanted to vent and hear from some other people what they think of BIL unpopular opinion

I would cut that conversation short
"Hey. While you are in my house I would prefer you not engage in conversation that would be offensive to a majority of the population, especially new mothers. Understood?"

Thank you. I think it's needless to add he doesn't have kids.

What does your BIL do for a crust? Has he ever claimed any form of welfare?

He worked in mining, but is currently unemployed. I don't think he's claiming any form of support yet but is getting pretty close to having to swallow his pride

Some people are idiots but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just tell him you disagree and change the subject.

I totally agree he's entitled to his opinion. I just wanted to vent and not feel like an idiot or have to keep complaining to DP about his brother. Thanks hubbers 😊
