I like to think of myself as a proud Australian and I look forward to Australia Day, mainly because it's always spent with family outdoors, watching all of our kids have fun.

I do feel that Australia Day should not be celebrated on the date that it is though and am always very mindful of what the date represents to our indigenous Australians.

I love it.. As a young Australian I understand that others my age may use it as just a chance to **** up but I celebrate it every year.. I'm very patriotic to my country..
I think that it needs to be celebrated for what it is.. (Well, to me anyway)... It's a chance to be proud of who we are, and how we've grown as country.. As previous posts have said that its a holiday celebrating murder and all that but I don't feel that way.. I feel that Australia Day is for, without having to worry about race or religion, celebrating who we are as a country. Our 'Aussie spirit' as a proud, successful country.. How we've grown, what we've done, and for those who feel that it is about murder, look at all we've done to make up for our ancestors short comings to the aboriginal populace..? Especially in comparison to the rest of the world.. Our values and morals as an Australian people. The beauty of our land.. From where we came from to where we are and how long it's taken us to get here.. We are a young county and look at our history...!
I'm proud to be an Australian and I'm proud to celebrate my country every year..
    Bits..

    Really?

I'm a recent arrival into Australia and even I know that's not true.

Australia Day is a farce. To me it marks the moment Triple J refused to acknowledge the rightful winner of the Hottest 100. I will always mourn TayTay's deposing.

Well I disagree with the general consensus within BubHub-land on this one.

I love being Australian. I am so grateful to have been born here, to Australian parents. We are incredibly lucky. Even the basics many take for granted...we have Medicare, we have the right to vote, we have clean drinking water.

I like to use Australia Day to reflect on how much I love our big brown land, and our way of life here. I'm so glad I'm not an American or British.

I'm certainly not a bogan. I am proudly Australian, and tomorrow I will wave my flag, have a celebratory beverage, and feel happy!!

I agree, fairly certain Australia is pretty far behind in 'making it up' to their native people...

Default How do you really feel about Australia Day?

I'm looking forward to Australia Day - where I live plenty of free kid friendly events are held. So I'm looking forward to having a day off and watching my kids run around with other kids (free and fun - the Australian way).

I think it's off that the day is the day of white man settlement etc. How disrespectful to the indigenous Australians. I would support a change in date for Australia Day. That being said while January 26 is still Australia Day I will use it as a day to relax with my kids, reflect on the great things that come with living in Australia and maybe socialise with a few friends (maybe even have a beer and wear a pair of Aussie thongs).

If Australia Day was messed with/the date was changed I wouldn't worry too much. If anyone dared touch/disrespect ANZAC Day though I would be ropeable. To me April 25 is the most important day on the Australian Calendar.
