Hi all! I'm in Adelaide and Pagan to the core! (a blend of Gaian, Animist and a few other odds and ends). I have been so desperate to find other Pagan mums and mums to be that I feel like my spiritual beliefs have been suffocated from having no one to gossip with!

I'm really hoping that having a baby will increase my participation in the lifestyle. I work hard at living the lifestyle (ethically and morally) of a Pagan and dislike spell work etc because even after 10-12 years I still feel that I'm meddling with something that my tiny human brain still cannot hope to fully comprehend (if that makes sense?).

My Hubby and I are planning on having a Naming Ceremony - he's an Atheist too but understands the ceremonial importance of a Naming Day not from any religious aspect or concept but from one of a rite of passage as a member of our family. It is essential in my belief that children both male and female experience rites of passage - in the past this would have included tattooing, circumcision (sp), scarring etc but now our children try and find it through stealing cars and drinking. By offering them mile stones to be proud of it helps develop a sense of self and inclusion in a family unit.

I had a similar rite when I got my period - I was only 11 but my Parents thought it was so important that we went out for a fancy dinner etc - boys should have a simillar experience.

I'd love to catch up with people - I'm in Ingle Farm in the N/NE Suburbs. Also, feel free to come along to the Pagans at the Pub or the Pagan forum at the Queens Hotel in Wright Street (City). I've been missing out due to the nausea but they are so friendly!

Hi all a great site is www.ozwicca.com all the information you need you will find on this site. They also hold courses. I am waiting for my reply for my first course in wicca. Always new but never practised.

I have been thinking alot about these kinds of things and wham, here it all is.

I too discovered Wicca in my teens after being raised on a very very loose prodestant backround. I read a great book on Green witchcraft and basically followed the rituals myself.

Now I have 2 little one's who have joined me on this journey we call life and I wish to share with them all I have learned.

I have turned away from 'god' as it is know in the mainstream and turned to a more New Age kind of understanding of the world and how the energies interact within it.

It is actually a very contentious (sp?) subject in our house, my DH was raised catholic, but found his own path in meditation in his 20's. When we were talking about getting married and having kids he said he would not give his kids to the church as he didn't believe in it but now he has changed his mind and wants them baptised and sent to church and even possibly catholic school

which I am very strongly against. We argued so much about it that he has banned it from discussion now and just does nothing. The in-laws are all very catholic still.

"Circle Round - raising children in the goddess tradition." How many of you have used this book? Is it good. I have been looking around for something like this. Has anyone got it in Oz or do I need to order it from Amazon or similar?

How do you approach 'christian' holidays?

hi all
this talk has recently been added to our website and i thought i'd share it, as i found it a really good one! it is a keynote speech given by my teacher (Zen Master Kwang Myong) when she attended the Whole World is a Single Flower conference in Singapore last year. Until she retired last year, she was the Chaplain at Mt Olivett Hospital here in Brisbane, so has lots of experience in the spiritual care of dying patients and their families.

been away from this thread for ages.......

first to reply, the "circle round" book (which is great) should be able to be found in most bookshops. my partner got it for me in dymocks, so it shouldn't be too hard to track down.

re: christian holidays.... depends on where i am. If i am at my parents house in canada, they are catholic, so i go along with their traditions of food and family (but refuse to go to church with them). At my partners parents places we just go for lunch and eat lots and visit, but they are not religious at all. but at my home, we celebrate the seasons, and the sabbats. when little baby come out, we'll continue as now. will be interesting when he gets older and other kids celebrate other holidays, but it won't be enough to make me suddenly buy into santa.

so my due date is coming up in about 4 weeks and I'm wondering if anyone used any ritual or similar during their births. I have a few ideas about things i want to do, but it is more internal, like using reiki for pain mgmt, and drawing down strong healing energy for the room. falling pregnant coincided with doing work in a coven that worked with nuit and the moon. so i might like to invoke that energy again.

if anyone would like to share their stories of magikal births (well i guess they are all magikal! but with extras!) it would be great. I'll also be in a birth centre and am not sure how much ability i will have to set up a mini-altar.
