Just wanted to let others know that it is possible to go to SA for a shorter duration than the 12 to 14 days if you wish. I left my 18 month old DD home so wanted to minimise the time away. I had my scan and bloods on Day 14 in Australia.. Got the all clear to start as bloods and scan were good and egg pick up went well. I bought 4 days of Gestone in oz at $30 per day.. Flew out that night. Had only booked flights when my donors egg pick up was scheduled. All up.. 2 overnight flights.. 7 nights in Cape Town.. Though could have travelled earlier by at least one day.. But I did book this as and was lucky as was asked to show return journey at the airport on checking in on Qantas.

Hope this info helps others. Organising the timing of all this does drive you crazy at times.

Ecm, let go of what you cant control otherwise it'll do your head in. Get back on that bike and change your flights and annual leave. Maybe if you call the airline and explain they maybe sympathetic and change it for a small fee?

I know @MissSagi you are right. I just need to let it go. I was/am just a little annoyed and upset. It just reinstates that fragility of it all. At any time it could all come undone. I will get over myslef and stop my pity party. No point in it. Thanks xx

I know how you feel. It killed me to wait to book flights and accommodation until I received my plan as I like to be organised. Booking 3wks before I left was an anxious time but I got over it. Then while in SA they pushed out the epu by a couple of days which stuffed up all my plans as there was also an extra appt at cfc i had to go to, to show me how to inject gestone, which I didnt know about. Because of this i had to find an extra nights accommodation where we were staying in cape town, change dates of safari lodge we were going to and reduce accommodation nights at the next place we were staying in cape town. It was a nightmare and I was so peeved off as I thought I was so organised and had everything in place. Once I changed everything I was fine again.

@ECM1981 A little Zoladex update. My FS said she can prescribe Zoladex ($345) but not under Authority, so on the PBS ($40), because it's an overseas cycle. So back to the evil spray, Synarel ($220) it is.
PS: Have I missed a post about things going wrong with your donor or timeline?

Have you booked in your dates without having your period back? I wondered how long it will take for my body to get back to normal

Yes, we booked before I got period back. i spent the final month trying to go from 5+ feeds a day to none. I think the nurse said I could start the pill without a period ONLY if I was sure I was not pregnant (ie a blood test before starting) butrr sure enough, after rigorous weaning, I got my period just before the absolute last date I could start the pill, really....As for getting your body back to 'normal'. Not sure mine will ever be the same again.

YOu certainly must have stopped feeding by the time you start the pill.

I transferred a bucketload of money to SA today via international bank transfers (CFC and donor agency). Any ideas on how long it will take to clear? Maybe 3-5 days?

There is a lot of 'hurry up and wait' in this process, isn't there?
Not as bad as IVF though :-)
It took 9 days for them to come back to me with an answer that they had my deposit. And that's after I emailed repeatedly for an answer. The accounts department emailed first but it still took another 3 days before I heard from my coordinator. Having said that they are quite confident that the dates that I have asked for are still very possible. I'm going to wait for my EDs scan before I book anything. The thought of booking flights and accommodation four weeks out from going did stress me out a bit but I'm ok with it now. I'm going to wait til we are there before I plan any touristy kind of stuff. All going well with the scan we plan to be there around 28th June.

@thali I've been on the synarel and found it to be fine I've had no side effects except the yukky taste sometimes ! I had bad side effects on ocp for 3 weeks instead .
with regards to the known donors had I have known about this option it is one we would have persued so good luck those who are using this option . Being adopted myself I like the option of being able to have background information if the child wants to !
I only found out about this option via this thread a couple of weeks ago . We already had chosen a donor and we financially committed to Capetown

We have arrived in Capetown today ! was freaking out a bit a couple of weeks ago but strangely calm here and ready to go. I could possibly be pregnant in 2 weeks that's crazy to think about !

Just wanted to let those know travelling with any child under 18 you . SA immigration require to take with you a birth certificate for them along with a passport . Qantas said they will not let you travel without it.

With th regards to immune protocols my doc at cfc said I could take 15mg pred. I asked for a intralipid which I'm getting done Thursday . He said nothing indicated I needed to use clexane on my files even though I have elevated Cd57 cells and have previously had high anticardilipan antibodies . I told him I had been taking it for all my cycles since 2009 and was therefore reluctant no to take it. He said if I chose to it would be on the recommendation of my FS in oz and not the CF clinic, so I have brought it with me . I would have taken it regardless!

thanks for the acupuncturist recommendation ladies have booked into see Sarah Hewland too ! Time to fight the jetlag and get to bed . Goodnight xxxx
