@faith15, is your transfer today? Good luck if it is.

I arrived last night. Going to be touristy today and transfer is tomorrow.

Man, that's a long boring flight and very uncomfortable on my Gestone injecting spots.

I am new to this forum, planning ED with knowneggdonors.com. I haven't come across a different thread re donors travelling to Brisbane but I am happy to share what I know. The specialist involved is Dr Warren de Ambrosis. We were lucky enough to have an appointment with him yesterday, after a cancellation (my appointment was booked for June!). His colleague Dr Scott Salisbury is helping those that can't get in to see Warren. The donors travel in a small group, and we plan to go ahead with a cycle in early April. There is also a group coming in Feb. Basically we shared some emails with the co-ordinator in SA (Genevieve), then we skyped to ask some more questions. We then selected a donor and have skyped the donor, which went really well.

I've been feeling pretty comfortable with the process until yesterday. Genevieve quoted me around $13K, excluding my 'personal ivf costs'. Warren said that by the time QFG add in their fees it is going to cost us around $25K. Warren also said that while the Feb group is definitely going ahead there is a questions mark about the March group as QFG wants to be certain that the arrangements are 100% legal and ethical. Now we are wondering whether we should go overseas which Warren says is around half the cost. For me though, I would prefer not to have to travel. We have a three year old, it is hard for me to get time off work and I personally prefer a known donor so that our child can make contact with the donor when they are older if they wish. That's why the knowneggdonors path ticks a lot of boxes for me. Having said that I am open to whatever path opens for us in order to give our daughter a sibling.

I am keen to share my experience and learn from others as well!
Sounds a bit like what Monash are doing with the world egg bank but with fresh eggs rather than frozen (fresh are always preferable). It's about the same costs at the end of the day.

I too have spoken to Warren De Ambrosis about the travelling donor situation... as he was my treating Dr that I was flying from Perth to Brisbane to see. I did 3 cycles with him.. with the first resulting in my 18 month old girl. He did mention that it would be more expensive...and wasn't sure if it was going to be legal due to the $. In light of that.. I decided to go to SA. I have been to SA a couple of times before...so the travel is not a problem..and South Africa has some nice things to do and see. I however think I will be leaving my toddler in Perth with grandparents as I dont fancy flying with a toddler....as she is at a difficult age... It will be me flying solo...

To @Lucinda2016.. I would hope the travel would not be too bad for you if you travelled with someone else and yr 3 yr old. I suppose the known donor vs annon donor is the thing to consider if that is what you are thinking about now. Good luck in what ever you decide.
