    She doesn't really say anything but she loves her dad more than me it kind of breaks my heart as I always thought we would be closer! But DS is so high maintenance it isn't the case. She always goes to him for reassurance etc it really hurts me yes I know this is really stupid!

    I have heard heaps of these sort of things over the years. Most the time it water off a ducks back. Sometimes it hurt and sometimes it's has left scars. Over time those scars get thinner and lighter til one day you can't even see them anymore.
    It's a normal part of the growing up process

    My go to come back 'so to speak' is "well I love you and there is nothing you can do or say to stop me loving you". It's true I couldn't stop loving my kids no matter what they choose to do.

    your not my best friend anymore from my 3.5 year old. My response, good coz thats not my job im just here to set boundaries and smack you on the bum then went on to empty the dishwasher. He walked up to me and said 'but mummy you not smacka my bum and you are my best friend'

    DS2 told me he only loves me to the letter box today... Usually it's the stars and the moon :/

    My DD4, when she has been strongly reprimanded about something, tells my husband and I "Right! I'm cancelling your birthday/Xmas!!(whatever's next)".

    Gets a chuckle out of us to which she indignantly replies (loudly), "it's not FUNNY!"
