    Default 40 and 1st pregnancy

Hello, I've just found out that yesterday that I'm 5wks pregnant and have no idea what to expect. Got bloods done and apparently my progesterone level is a bit low. Fs wants me to start pesseries asap. Due to my age said would be very beneficial. Has anyone else used these or had low progesterone early in their pregnancy? Thanks just trying to take it all in at the moment.

Congratulations! I don't have personal experience but know pessaries are commonly prescribed, I was offered them early in this pregnancy (as I had a miscarriage last year) but decided against it (I didn't have low progesterone so it was more of an insurance policy of sorts). Friends of mine have used them and it's common with IVF. Essentially it's helping to raise/keep your progesterone levels high because too low levels can apparently cause a miscarriage.

I don't know a lot more about them but it is very common. Best of luck 😊

Congrats! I had my first at 39 and I was put on pessaries as I had a shortened cervix picked up at 20 weeks, took them for about 8 weeks and had healthy baby at a scheduled c section at 38.5weeks

Thanks ladies, it is all a bit overwhelming. But happy to hear they are normal.
