@Sue77 I have suffered from horrendous depression and anxiety throughout this process and got to a very, very dark place where I just had to stop everything and regroup and truly consider life without children.

I also had a very toxic reaction to the IVF meds I was on, so that didn't help either as I gained a lot of weight, became severely hypothyroid and that causes depression in itself. I did a lot of counseling, healing work with other practitioners that went more into the spiritual aspects etc and I'm in a much better place now than I was six months ago, which is why I'm now considering moving forward again, maybe with one last IVF cycle before I turn 45 and then DE after that. I haven't taken anti-depressants although I probably should have - I did naturopathic protocols which did help, but I still take half a Xanax at night to sleep as I have severe anxiety at night which means that I don't sleep. That isn't safe in pregnancy, so I'm attempting to wean off it now so that I can move forward in the new year.

Hon, seek whatever help you need to get through this - I've had a lot of traumas in my life, and I've always managed to pick myself up and keep on going - but this - the miscarriages, failed cycles, the grief - is worse than anything I've ever been through and it's taken just about everything from me - I've ruined my business, my finances, lost friends, and my relationship is suffering.

I wouldn't call myself particularly OK right now, but I'm finding ways to manage my emotions that are mainly successful and I only have a couple of seriously bad days every month when I know I'm not pregnant and AF is on her way.

Good luck, get whatever support you need whether it is counseling, medication, meditation, etc to get through this as it is one of the hardest things in the world. Let's hope we get our bubs in the end and the journey will have been all worthwhile.

Hi gals, just a quick one from me, sorry I'm at the airport at DPO14 levels 178! Yippee. So all good, just got the run down from my doc on the meds from now on. Think my partner is finally believing me.
I wrapped up a little pink onesie and gave it to him yesterday, wasn't sure he wanted to find out in front of all his family so I thought I'd do it at home.
So he unwraps it and sees the pink and says "I knew it was a girl!" then unfolds it and sees the penis I've drawn on it. Yep, it's a boy! Ha ha.

@Summer I'm a lifelong insomniac and for quite a years before starting IVF I took two Stilnox every night (usually doctors won't let you take Stilnox for that long, but given my complex health it was decided it was required). Given the blackouts it gave me there was no way I was going to take it when TTC - plus I was worried about its long-term effects on my own brain. My doctor was very happy for me to try Circadin (melatonin) 4mg instead. For me, prolonged poor sleep is a potential trigger for depression.

When I started IVF my FS#1 didn't believe melatonin helped with egg quality, as some do, but had no issue with me taking it. FS#2 then prescribed 5mg of melatonin (compounded) and when I told him about my already being on Circadin he was happy for me to take 5mg of the compounded melatonin or 6mg of Circadin - whichever was cheaper. I've found that if I get 2 boxes per script of Circadin that gets a higher private health rebate and therefore is cheaper. I'm tall and carrying IVF weight, so I'm not sure if that has been taken into account with dosage.

I don't get the knockout effect of Stilnox and I don't sleep as long on melatonin, but I generally get enough sleep to feel refreshed/functional. I find about an hour after taking melatonin I get a small window of tiredness and if I go to sleep then I'm out - if I stayed up, I'd still be able to function. I don't know if it is in part placebo, but it works for me.

Anyhoo (love that and hope BIB hasn't copyrighted it!) I thought this might work for you in weaning off Xanax.

Default PBS Safety Net - have you reached it?

    Hi girls

You likely have this sorted, but if not...

We always try to go to the one pharmacy, but with IVF and hospitals that hasn't worked so well. I suspected we might be getting close to the PBS safety net and spoke to my pharmacist, who then got me to ring all the pharmacies I thought DH and I might have got scripts from this calendar year (6 that I could remember) and get them to fax my primary pharmacy a safety net statement for DH and I (include any dependents if you've got them). Our lovely pharmacist has crunched the numbers and it turns out we're well over the safety net and will now be able to get cheaper scripts for the next week to 31 December, but better still apparently we can claim back through Medicare a "big refund" for the cheaper scripts we would have been eligible for.

In the greater scheme of IVF I know drugs aren't the big cost, but I figure every bit helps. Definitely worth 10 minutes on the phone.

@Gagingi - I have been prescribed melatonin this cycle and have never taken it before - in fact have never taken any sleeping pill except once or twice taking temazepam to help with jet lag. I'm a bit worried it will make me sleepy or drowsy the next day. Is that likely or does it have a short life where it knocks you off to sleep but them has worn off by morning?
