My DH is a teacher. He had 25 this year (Catholic school) but is changing schools next year and will have 17. Both the same year level.

My son starts prep (Vic) and he will have 18 in his class. They have said they don't like classes to go over 20.

In Prep we had around 23 I think, with a full time teacher aide. In grade 4 there were about 25. This was private.

In W.A. public schools, K- 3 can't exceed 24 unless they are in a general purpose classroom and potentially extra aide time. My DS's classes are no higher than that for a couple of years.

My daughter will start Prep in Vic. There are 50 kids across 2 classes with 2 full time teachers and 1 teacher working 4 days per week who will work across both classes.

29 in the first year of school is high. I am a teacher and our kindergarten classes don't exceed 20 (first year of formal schooling in NSW). I wouldn't want to teach 29 kids let alone have my child in a class that big 😁

My DD is starting prep, in Vic, at a public school - 21 students per prep class. There's will be 5 or 6 classes of preps and the total student count for the school is 960 - that's a bit scary but she will survive. The school is prep-6.

    Default class sizes

DS starts kindy next year (Nsw) and there is 20 in his class ( private school) with 1 full time teacher, 1 full time teachers aid plus sport, music, language teachers etc I know 20 is their limit, most of the other classes are between 15-20 kids per class ( only 300 kids in the primary school)
