Default Kmart's new checkout arrangement - thoughts?

I only saw this for the first time over the weekend when I was interstate - the Kmart I went to seemed quite nice and refurbished, however the checkouts were right in the middle of the store

I thought this might have been a one-off new store type thing, but I've since seen people complaining about the impracticality of this setup on social media. Apparently a number of Kmarts now have this arrangement. It's a thing.

The biggest complaint seems to be having to line up when you get to the exit to show your receipt/purchases. I guess people have already lined up to pay, so they're annoyed about lining up a second time.

Does it bug you, or are you not even mad?

Lining up a second time would be annoying yes, especially with kids in tow.

They're opening a brand new store near me in mid 2016.
I wonder will it be the same set up.

This annoys me so much. My Kmart also has self serve near the door so I try to use those if I can. I hate lining up twice plus I don't always remember to take the receipt if I'm doing self serve. Although it's a first world problem, it's a real pain.

Yes! I think this is such an annoying layout. Our store has some self serve at the front of the store and in the middle they have regular checkouts and self serve I just dont get why they think its a good idea

I really don't see the point. What was wrong with the old system? It was efficient.

It just seems like change for the sake of change. I'm glad our local K-mart doesn't have it (yet).

Probably! Unless the general public's anger starts to make them question their logic?

My local one has the old system too - I don't want it to change. It works well as it is.

    I don't even mind *shrug*

I get why it's annoying, it's just not big enough to register on my "ugh"-o-meter.

I kind of just think K-mart is awesome, since there are none local to me!

I find it odd, but my thoughts would be:
1 - store entry looks neater
    2 - encourages people to use self-serve
3 - easier to simply shut off or remove non self-serve checkouts in future if hat becomes a thing.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me. I just use the self serve :P

I like it. It could make people spend more...as they are walking out they spot something they want. Haha! Almost did that the other day. We have never had to line up to exit either.
