Default Over 40 IVF using anonymous donor sperm at Concept - Dr issues/recommendations

    Hi,

I am single and just turned 44 using anonymous donor sperm to conceive (hopefully) on my own.

I just had a fertility cycle for egg collection at Concept using a new Dr (Dr Teoh). Anyway, my second apt with him was devastating but luckily my naturoapth was really supportive so I'm wanting to know if anyone else is happy with him or if you could recommend a Dr at Concept that you have used and were happy with.

    Thanks in advance

Hi Lau - I dont go to that clinic so cant really offer any advice on your doctor or others but if your really unhappy try another doctor or even another clinic, its a tough road this ivf so you need a doctor who is helpful and supportive. I wish you all the best.

What was devastating about the appointment? Was he not supportive of you because you're single?

I used Lucy Williams and have also seen Dr Artley, both are really nice. Not sure of Dr Artleys waiting list but it was four months to see Dr Williams as a new patient.

I used Dr Artley he was amazing and said it how it was... No messing around and just told me the best way forward for us. We did fall first round of IVF and couldn't recommend a better doctor or clinic!

Thanks SugarBerry. I just started the whole process so it's a long slow learning curve

Thanks. I have since made an appointment with Dr Thompson who apparently specialises in IVF for older women so hopefully that will be a better experience

Basically he seemed really disinterested in helping me because of my age rather. He basically told me, after only my first round of fertility drugs that it was pointless me going ahead. I even had to push him to get any information or help with what I could do to improve my chances. I think, if it wasn't for my Naturopath I would have already given up.

The worst part was when I had my first meeting with him he seemed really positive. It was an about face. I have heard that the first couple of times you are given fertility drugs it takes a while for the doctors to assess how you're reacting but he didn't seem to think there was any point trying anything else. It was almost like he changed my protocol because I insisted on trying again.

Makes me wonder how much of what they do is about the stats

Anyway, that day was awful but back on track now with DHEA and a new protocol so fingers crossed.

    Thanks for all your support

I have since made a follow up appointment with 2 new doctors who I will see early next year. I can't believe things happen so slowly, I had my first appointment in Feb 2015 but it took 6 months to get a donor.

I have also missed periods since then so not sure whether that's age or stress related so have only had one cycle of fertility drugs til now. I have given myself Christmas off to enjoy myself, and give the DHEA time to work and will then go back for an egg collection cycle in the New Year.

Hi I just wanted to ask was your AMH super low and did they get no eggs or follicles on the first cycle? My friend had the same thing happen she is 43 and she did get more advice but it was the same that besides a donor she wouldn't be able to get any eggs. Obviously he wasn't as sensitive as he should have been I am sorry to hear that, but make sure the next FS is about you, getting eggs and higher chances and not just about doing another expensive stim cycle with no response
