It's the same situation here in WA. Despite St. John of God opening this year and Fiona Stanley last year there are a glut of nursing grads and no jobs. At the hospital I work at there is not ONE job for the grads. Not one. This is the first year I can remember being like this. It's so strange . The media says there is a shortage of nurses but it's the opposite . Swan hospital just closed a couple of weeks ago and some have been redeployed to us and we don't even have the positions for them !

I really don't understand why the universities are allowed to train these people if there's not enough jobs for them. I definitely would not do nursing if it was me starting over. Just all too hard.

It's just so weird that the media keeps saying that there is a shortage of nurses. But there isn't! I feel truly sorry for those who start a university degree in nursing. And here I am wanting to get out of nursing but not sure what to do!

I remember when I started 11 years ago and agency nurses got endless work , now you rarely see agency 9 mths of the year, actually even winter.
A lot of graduates have to join the casual pool and will eventually get a 0.4 contract for 6 mths somewhere.
Having said that though, I do believe it will eventually return to somewhat normal since they apparently have taken on less students

We have been told to expect even more next year. We had sooo many come through this year, I'm totally drained.
