Default Severe blocked milk duct help!

If you can, could you have a shower and massage the area as much as possible starting from under your armpit downwards and let the breast drain some. Afterwards wake Bub for a dream feed off that side to further the massage work you've done. Hang in there, it's terrible. If you feel worse tomorrow go and see someone so it doesn't get even worse.

ETA: hot only ever worked for me too not cold but put as much pressure as you can withstand.

As other have suggested things already, hope it passes they aren't much fun at all...

I second the lecithin tablets for preventing blocked ducts especially if this has occurred before...

This article has some useful suggestions....good luck!

Another one on team hot hotty hot. Shower nozzle, massage and pointing bubs chin towards the blockage when they feed (may require some contortion!)
If it hasn't improved at all by tomorrow or if you have redness and or temp then straight to the GP. I had terrible blocked ducts and mastitis with my third and it's bloody awful

I'm another with a huge blocked duct I'm trying to clear. I though do have mastitis also which is now controlled with the antibiotics, but I can't get rid of this painful lump :-(. The mastitis came on really quickly for me - I woke one morning with a sore breast, tried to express etc, but within a couple of hours I had chills and body aches with temperature. It's awful, so don't leave it.
I will be trying all of these tips to get it cleared, but what happens if you can't clear it?

Worked a treat! Can you find someone who does that?

I was always told hot before a feed and cold after was best.
Hot is what worked for me and what sounds like many many others.

Big hugs xx that's horrible. Happened to me a couple of months ago and felt like it would never clear. Just keep trying to shift it at every opportunity...even if that means you spend all day expressing. I found hot compress, massage then hand express on repeat worked best for me. If its hard to shift it could be because the milk has become like yoghurt so hard to express out...and/or that it's very deep. The last few times its come on very quickly...I've woken up with a blocked duct and chills/fever out of the blue.

I'm interested in the theory behind this.

My thoughts (and what I was told) was always hot.

What benefits to cold rather than hot?

Ahhh because essentially a blocked duct is inflammation. Thanks for the info.
