Default Gangahlin/Lynham childcare or Preschools advise?

    Hi,

I have a 4 year old and 2 year old. We are moving to Canberra in Dec and I will start full time work in Jan (I haven't worked for 5 years since my eldest was born).

We have not been to Canberra and not sure of the area. Currently, I am trying to work out where things are and how to find a childcare and Preschool for my kids and not sure where to start!

    1. Can someone point me to Preschools in Gangahlin and Lynham? I don't know where we are going to live yet.It is also going to be Dec and should I start right now to check and put him on waiting list or should I wait until I arrive first?

    2. Are there Family Day Care in Canberra who might be able to fit in my 2 children in? We have things like YMCA family day care in Queensland. Is there something like that in Canberra?

I am on a low wage too and have to put both kids at childcare full time.
I did a rough calculation and I will only get a few hundreds more compared to not working (Childcare is $100+ a day and it will be $1000 for both kids, 5 days a week) but I need to start somewhere so, just got to bite the bullet and do it. So, looking for best options of childcare if someone can advise please.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I live in Canberra. I think you mean Gungahlin. I love Gungahlin. I live in Belconnen but Gungahlin is quite nice. Lyneham is nice too and it's close to the city but this will be an expensive suburb to live in due to it being close to the city (something to think about if you're trying to save money). Sorry I just saw that you're looking at CHILDCARE centres not places to live. Not sure about Lyenham you can do a google search or ask Canberra Mums (see below). Gungahlin has YMCA (My children go to the one at Jamison and to be honest I hate them lol but the carers are generally pretty good), there's Gungahlin children's service/childcare whatever they're called, Kinderhaven, Lavendar Lane (This one seems to be the best one from what I can gather from people).

I would put his name down asap. To be honest you should have done this a couple of months ago. Most positions for next year would've been filled. Ring around a lot of places to see if there's anything available. Family daycare is available down here. YMCA and other companies do have them. If you're on Facebook join a group called "Canberra Mums". You can message the person and they'll post the question for you and Canberra mums will answer them for you.

As for the childcare prices... keep in mind that you get 50 % back up to 7500 a year per child from the Government and if you are on a low wage you will also get a % back in CCB depending on what your combined income is so even though it looks pretty bad you'll get more money than you think back (although it still does cost quite a chunk in childcare ).

Well, we haven't got a place to live either.

We can't find a house because we are not there yet and we can't book in a school because we don't have a local address..

Sounds terrible now that the date is drawing closer.
