    Default Adult ADHD

Hi just after some advice. My dh was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, was never medicated but treated with diet etc although he doesn't think it was very successful.

He shows adult ADHD symptoms..reading the list is like reading about him. Poor concentration is one of the main issues which affects his work and he finds it very frustrating.

Problem is we are finding it hard to get a diagnosis for him. Adult ADHD isn't a very well known condition even though its recognized and quite common for it to affect children diagnosed into their adulthood.

There are only a handful of physiatrists here in Adelaide that diagnose and treat it. They are all either in the process of retiring or not able to take on any new patients.

Has anyone got any other suggestions of where we can get help? Is a psychiatrist the best person for him to see?

I'm finding GPs tend to not take him very seriously.

    Any help appreciated

A psychologist would be your best bet. Have a look on the australian psychological society website.

My DH was similar to yours - not medicated as a child but has been experiencing symptoms that as an adult are/were affecting his work (namely concentration).

His GP referred him to a psychiatrist who discussed treatment etc. DH has chosen to medicate (work days only) and says the change is immense.

I can't help with names as we are in different states but best of luck with it all.
