Default Fish oil while breast feeding

Hi all, I have really bad hand dermatitis n blepharitis (inflammation of eyelids) that's only controlled by taking Ethical Nutrients' liquid fish oil. I was told it was ok to take when pregnant but my chemist is unsure about taking when breast feeding. Is anyone taking fish oil while breast feeding? Looking forward to reading your experiences.

I can't imagine why you can't have it breastfeeding.

This! I am taking it while breastfeeding but only two tablets a day. Maybe best to find out more if you need to take large doses.

I think the only concern would be that there's probably a risk of mercury or other environmental pollutants getting through the fish into the extracted oil. But I expect it's a very very low risk. I know Blackmore's for one contains fish oil and it's advertised as being for both pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I'm breastfeeding and vegetarian so take an algae sourced omega supplement instead, which I don't think has the same likelihood of containing pollutants, might be an alternative if you need to take large doses?

I take blackmores triple strength fish oil (vanilla flavored one). I checked with blackmores and its molecularly distiller so no Mercury or other pollutants/nasties. confirmed safe for pregnancy and BF.

I had a lactation consultant tell me to take it when I was breastfeeding one of my children. It apparently can increase the long chain fatty acids in the milk. It gave me migraines so I stopped. It certainly shouldn't do your baby any harm, but if you have concerns double check with your doctor.
