Yes! @turquoisecoast Almost everyone I've spoken to has had a hand out from family! We earn good money and have a great borrowing capacity but just can never seem to get far with savings whilst still trying to live comfortably. So frustrating!!

We didn't have a handout from family, but we ended up buying a townhouse because it was $100k cheaper than the houses we were looking at, was brand new and we had a wedding to pay for. It is doable, you just have to look outside the box a bit. This was never going to be our forever home, but in 3.5yrs has gone up $85k+ (going by sales of identical townhouses in our complex). It was a good stepping stone to get in the market.

yeah but it feels like even with the stepping stone houses you need help!

I'm very happy with the place we bought, it's great for a first home and will accommodate a growing family and it's not in the sticks. I appreciate how fortunate we have been. but it's definitely not the forever home. it's also a stepping stone.

it's not just the deposit that's hard, it's the stamp duty and, if your deposit is less than 20% of the purchase price, the bloody lenders mortgage insurance!

my parents gave us some money as a wedding gift which we put towards the deposit and went guarantor for the home loan so we didn't have to pay the lmi. I'm confident we'd have been able to save for the deposit on our own as we'd just paid for our wedding ourselves, but it was the stamp duty and lmi on top that was the daunting bit! even without the lmi, finding another $15k-$20k for the stamp duty is tough!

I'm not sure what the answer is but it does feel bloody hard these days!

We're only looking at stepping stones. It's getting on that first stone though that's the hardest! I know we'll do it one day but it just feels so far away 😒

DS starting asking 'why' today. Randomly. He has been asking 'what's that noise?' and 'what are you doing?' and 'what's that?' non stop for months. I'm still not ready for 'why?'

Haha DS1 started this on Monday. Sunday he didn't say it once and didn't really get the concept of why. Monday (and everyday since) it's all he could say. DH counted for 10 mins when he got home and stopped when he hit 50 "why's". In 10 minutes. And it's in this really Aussie accent he says it and it just grinds my gears!!

I got barely any sleep last night. Had to take out DS this morning to keep him occupied, had a short nap when DS did because I was exhausted. He woke up with a temp. Has been cranky ever since. And DH whinges ab9ut the state of the kitchen (while doing nothing about it). *sigh*

I've already been waiting in line for 15 minutes at spotlight with one person in front of me to get fabric cut and the woman working here said "don't worry, there's only one customer waiting, don't rush" to the lady being served. Wtf - that one customer has already been waiting forever!

Their service is going downhill. That's shocking.

Spotlight is the slowest store! I don't go there unless I have no where else to be knowing I will be in line forever.
