I went out for a work dinner tonight at the local pub. DS got out of his seat and left the room where we were sitting. I stood up to go after him and everyone told me to relax and just let him walk around.

They made me doubt myself and hesitate before I decided to trust my gut. I had to run to get DS before he had walked out of the entrance right next to the road. So now I am shaking and feel sick at what could have happened and I'm angry that I doubted myself.

Then I had to bribe DS with ice cream to stay in his seat. I asked for a small cup with no topping. This is what came out:

@harvs I'm glad you trusted your gut. I think I'm usually a pretty chilled parent and trust my daughter not to wander off, but if she ever goes into another room when we're out in public (not counting someone's house), I always follow her. So I don't think you were overreacting.

@harvs Mummy's instinct is a wonderful thing. Don't beat yourself up about doubting yourself, we all do that. Meanwhile, I want that icecream and does t he looked pleased with it?!

@harvs I hate it when other people tell me to chill when it comes to my kids. I am pretty chill 99% of the time so if I'm not just ---- off and let me do my thing.

Don't relive the moment. The main thing is nothing happened. My son nearly drowned last summer in front of 6 adults and I was haunted by what might have been for weeks. But he's fine and so was my son. Nothing went bad because you did follow your guts.

Thanks lovelies, you're all so right. And he loved his ice cream (and even shared half a spoonful with me!). @Sonja that is my absolute worst nightmare. I can't even imagine what that was like for you...

@harvs sadly it's the second time it's happened. My daughter had an incident at southbank in Brisbane when she was being "supervised" by someone else.

So yeah I know that feeling. You just have to let it go
