Default IVF - Any partner's had Testicular Biopsy?

    Hi,

My husband and I are starting IVF in November, we have just had all our meetings and we think my husband is going to need to do a Testicular Biopsy.

Has anyone's partners done it before ? He is really scared.

He may be a one in a million but there is absolute nothing wrong with my husband and we believe it is all physiological but he can only produce with intercourse. We received special condoms but he said they were too uncomfortable. We had to cancel two cycles of IUI as he wasn't able to produce on the day and we now really have no choice

Hoping to get some replies to ease his fear of the procedure.

Yes, quite a few times here. There will be lots of partners of forumites that would have had this done. I don't think my hubby rates it among his favourite things to do, but he also doesn't whinge too much about it. I don't think it compares to EPU (not for me anyway, as they have always been pretty horrendous for me!). He's had it done at 7.30am and been back at work at 8.30. No big deal.

Hi there. My hubby has had it done twice. Once under local anesthetic back in 2008 when we started IVF and it was awful. He was in pain while they were doing the procedure and the doctor (a female) couldn't seem to understand that he was in referred pain through into his kidneys and lower back, the local worked for his groin but that was about it. But don't read all that and stress out!!

He's just had it done again last week with our new IVF specialist under a general anesthetic (it's not a real general, its more a overall light sedation like I had for the egg collection) and he is totally trouble free with it this time. No issues when he woke up and hardly any pain at all in the days after. We were very relieved.

We actually confirmed with the doctors afterwards that all had gone to plan as we were surprised about how little amount of pain he was in (especially after what he experienced the first time).

Maybe it might be better for your husband to go under a "general" like mine did if he is very scared of the procedure.

    Good luck with it!

My hubby has had both testicular biopsies and aspirations done, under both local anaesthetic and general. He asked for the general for the last round as he wasn't liking it under LA, but if it's on the same day as your EPU, it meant you have to ask a friend to pick both of you up. We caught a taxi home lol!

Thanks for all the feedback, he is really nervous. We are leaving it as last resort. Going try freeze sperm prior but we seem to be having trouble getting it

This was us. DH has terrible trouble under pressure. We started weeks and weeks ahead freezing samples and there was only one cycle which we had to have a TESA. He had local and a bit of gas and said it was fine. He coped very well just needed a bit of panadol and nurofen plus ice.

It might be worth trying everything you can because TESA sperm is very poor quality compared to the more mature ejaculated stuff. Keep trying the catholic condoms my FS even suggested a trip to naughty but nice. In the end my husband found it easier to do it without me there.

Yes my husband is very bad under pressure. We have been trying the condoms but he complains they are really uncomfortable. It makes everything so stressful as well We will keep trying as we are not starting IVF until November so atleast we have time I guess.
