I can't really speak about the community thing but I imagine that would come with involvement in school/sports/interest groups etc. I don't yet have kids in school and being as pregnant as I am I'm no longer working (which I miss) or riding my horse (he's at Kersbrook) and I miss that too.

Thanks mkj. I love the farmers market type things. I'm right into growing my own and currently do vegie swaps and garden/permaculure activities etc where i live. I think the Barossa would be great for a foodie like me!

If you like food and wine it's a great place to be

Great place to be even if you only like one of those two things

I am in Smithfield (the nice new part with the adventure park). What about going out to Angle Vale, Roseworthy or Virginia. Hewitt is also quite nice in the country areas

We didn't move to tanunda due to the festivals that basically leave you unable to leave some weekends like day on the green and national brass band comps

I've thought about that but barossa is def closest to the city i can handle. I'm more used to remote and rural areas. I have family and friends today in your area and the ones you've mentioned so know them quite well but they don't fit with me. I love that you responders are helping me mull it over though!!
