    So I went.

I loooove the backyard and the deck, and it would be amazing for DS to have somewhere to run around. There's room for trampoline, sandpit, bike riding and then some.

I am not besotted with the house but that's because it has someone else's stuff in it as well, I think. And I don't like their taste! I think it would be a really lovely first home and it's not stupid big to be overwhelming. It's a little smaller than where I am now, but it does have the two sheds and the rumpus room which would be good for storage in the short term. There's so much yard it would be possible to build on in the future if necessary. In summary, there could be a few little touch up cosmetic jobs over the next couple of years but before then it would be a very nice place.

My only hesitation is there is a huge aerial on the roof. I know that FOB will go ape over that for health reasons, and I don't love the idea of it either to be honest. Are there alternatives to it? There is also a satellite dish.

Would that hold you all back at all?

I said I'd decide by the end of the day.

Thanks for all the hints - it helped me focus and ask some questions that otherwise I wouldn't have.

That would not hold me back at all. It's your house (potentially) and he can't have the last word on everything you do in your life. I understand his anxiety but you also have the right to make decisions too. Is not you don't have your DS interests at heart. Unless you have cable underground then there isn't really much choice. A satellite dish is effectively the same as an aerial in terms of waves through the air.

Also factor in water and land rates as a yearly cost.

Extensions can cost upwards of $10-15k per room.

Don't be afraid to look around. Get a feel for what's out there and value for money. You never know, you might find something that feels completely and utterly right instead of "it will do for now" and settling on something you are underwhelmed by in one way or another.

But if its everything you dream of then by all means put an offer in.

Wouldn't put me off either. We have an aerial for TV, one to boost mobile coverage and a dish on the roof. If we didn't, we'd have no TV, Internet or phone!

I agree with PP too. Don't let your ex dictate to you. It would be YOUR house, paid for with YOUR money. Yes, his son lives there, but he has no right to say anything about your choice of abode. Would he like it if you started telling him where he could live??

Thanks. You're right. And if we were in the city we would be surrounded by antennas and mobile phone towers and lord knows what else, as well as diminished air quality and pollution so really it's not so bad.

For what's in my price range and available where I live, it is absolutely the best I could get. It needs no work at all and has up to date everything.

And let's face it, I have an active and destructive little boy so touching/fixing things up in the future is inevitable!

It's just such a big step. My anxiety is about the forever thing and the sucking at making decisions thing, not the 'do I really like the house?' thing. Everything on my cons list is fixable, so...

    Wish me luck, I guess!!

You can't live your life to please other people. If it was something a reasonable person would have concerns about then listen. A large arial isn't something most people worry about aside from aesthetics. If it was next to a massive powerline I would maybe listen to him. You are probably not going to find a property that would please him.

If you're not sure keep looking.

Go for it!! It's not forever if you don't like it, you just sell it. If the price is already low you have nothing to lose

DO IT!! It looks like a great house, ticks all the boxes for now and with such a huge yard, you do have options for the future to extend or sell and move to something bigger.

If it's he best in your price range, the, go for it! I have everything crossed for you!
