I haven't stayed there, but try Meriton Apartments. They have one property on Adelaide St and one on Herschel St that both offer 3 bed apartments.

Meriton cost $1040 for two nights.
    Mantra has nothing
    Wot if cheapest is $798.

So sad it's so expensive having an extra 1 or 2 kids.

Can you venture a little further out to the gold or sunny coast instead if it's just for a weekend away? Then you've mostly got big apartments vs hotels. I know finding accommodation in cbd for more than 2 people is so hard! We've just struggled with it this year with trips to Melb & Syd.

No don't want coast or sunny coast. We thought a weekend escape and take the kids to the wheel of bris and Southbank. We hardly go into the city.

I can find apartment for three kids. Dare I ask... Should I lie about my fourth. Hate the idea but can't find anything

I would. I don't mention my baby because get lost if you think I'm paying $15 for a child that brings his own bed and shares a shower with someone.

Last year we did a bit of travelling with DD1 and stayed in many hotels. We conveniently "forgot" when booking to add her, no hotel tried to follow up with extra payment.
I think it may also have something to do with fire safety and head count but again no one mentioned anything.
You can always white lie and if questioned say the eldest ( for example ) was meant to be staying at a friends house but said friend got sick and had to cancel last minute

My MIL used to run a unit block in surfers, they did follow up whenever people would take in extra kids (extremely regularly!) because as a PP mentioned fire checks but also extra kids means extra electricity, water, cleaning etc for the hotel. So as long as you've put the money aside just in case they make you pay up if they notice you'll br right. The bigger the place the less likely they are to care/notice.
