Ha ha Irishhellsbells, we are still sitting in Perth Domestic Departures waiting for our flight back to Sydney. I'll give you a wave as we leave. You'll be fine, you'll see. You'll look back and think "what was I worried about!" CT is a great place, just make sure you hire a GPS if you hire a car. We just drove around sightseeing, didn't care where we got to and then when we were ready we turned on the GPS and went back to our accomm. Just don't drive into the Shanty Towns, you'll know them when you see them, they go for miles! We didn't feel threatened at all. You'll love it, and bring back some stowaways!

Good luck ECM and Lolly, it as great to catchup!

Hi Irishhellsbells you will be grand. We have been here since Sunday and loving it. I think we both have scans on Friday? If you like we can meet before for a cuppa? There is a nice cafe next to CFC let me know.

Hi ladies. I've selected a donor and just paid 40,000 ZAR for a March transfer. It's starting to feel very real now.

Congrats. I'm with you @Aspire. Confirmed my donor and sent my forms back last night. Heading over in feb though. Just trying to work out the most cost effective way to transfer the funds. Did you just use your bank ?

Has as anyone used PayPal or funds transfer company like forex ?

I noticed that a lot of you have hired cars. Which car hire company do you recommend? Also, which tours do you recommend? Am keen to do a safari. Any recommendations?

Hi @Aspire, for safari a lot go to Inverdoorn. It is a 2 &1/2 hr drive from CT. And you can do a day trip (self drive or transfer) or an overnight (this includes accom, 3 meals, refreshments and 2 safari drives). I can highly recommend the overnight option.

If hiring a car and you own a GPS see if you can buy and download a map before you go, this is a much cheaper option than hiring one once you get there. To hire we were looking at about $130, to download was $70, we got a sale price and paid $48. The other benefit was that before leaving we programmed in our accom, the clinic etc so we were good to go as soon as we picked up the car.

Aspire we found it a lot cheaper to book your car online yourself. I can't remember who we went through, will see if I can find out, but they had an office at CT airport and we collected the car there. We were quoted $1200 for 2 weeks hire with car seat through our travel agent, but only paid $550 by going direct online and that included car seat for our toddler and reduced excess from $2000 down to $500.
I also wouldn't bother with a GPS. We just used Google Maps on our iPhone and had no probs at all.

    Aspire - very exciting.

Payment transfers: I also used my Bank - best rate/fees and quick. I didn't know anyone was taking Paypal these days - I always find Paypal ex rates not the best.
Car Hire: I have used Hertz (wouldn't again - poor service and GPS broken and they refused a refund), Dollar and Woodford - both good. I never book direct, always through one of the aggregators as that was always the cheapest.
Safari: I did an overnight at Sanbora and well worth the money and the drive there - in fact if you have the time do 2 nights ! Food, accom and staff fantastic and animals good.
