    Default IVF/FET Aug Sept 2015 #2

    Hey guys,

About to start my first round of IVF at the end of this month.

Was just wondering how people have gone with their egg retrieval, whether they did General Anaesthetic or Sedation with local? If awake did it hurt, how bad was it? I am really not sure which option to go with because I get really scared having General Anaesthetic and I have had bad experiences with local as well.

    Thanks

@Evelynmoo I can't imagine doing EPU not under anaesthetic... I am sore for days afterwards. But I had 29 in my first (with further complications of ohss) and recently collected 14... Not as painful but it was a good week til I felt "ok" again

I have had two EPUs, both under light sedation, so you are completely unconscious but its not a general anaesthetic (are you sure they gave you option of general anesthesia as have never heard of EPU being done under a general and am a nurse and we do EPUs on my ward) and I was sore for a week with both and got 9 eggs first cycle and 8 the next cycle. Hope this helps xx

I had EPU awake. It was totally fine. They give you local sedation do you don't feel anything and gas so you're a bit chatty and relaxed. It made me feel part of the process and meant I knew how many eggs they got, as they were retrieved I had ten eggs retrieved.

Also my FS likes to have an anaesthetist on hand so if at any point I had been unhappy they could have knocked me out. Best of both worlds.

I have always had my EPUs under general - I am completely knocked out and only wake up when they start to take the tube out of my throat

So the lab called - only one embryo was good enough to freeze

It was an A grade turning into a blastocyst

They have strict guidelines for freezing so it must be a good one but I'm really scared that it won't thaw

Period started today as well so FET should be in around 2 1/2 weeks
