Default *trigger warning* recent domestic violence.

I'm sitting here watching the news tonight tears poring down my face in utter shock. 2 women and a child have been murdered in DV incidence within 72hrs in South East Queensland.

I'm not sure what I want this thread to achieve but I can't sit here and not acknowledge these tragic events.

    What can we do?
Can we as a community help this?
Why is this type of thing becoming the norm?

Unfortunately this isn't isolated and continues to happen.

My ex husband was like these men and i am lucky the police helped me even though there was no laws for his behaviours at the time.

I offer stregnth to all women going through any domestic violence no matter how insignificant they think it is.

    It's just terrible isn't it?

A child murdered on Monday, its only Thursday and we've had three domestic violence related murders and attempted murder.

I too am in shock, it's all too sad and whilst I know it happens far too much it just feels like its spiralling further out of control.

    What to do?

Not to mention the attempted murder today where the guy attacked his wife with a machete.

    When will this end???

Its brought back some awful awful memories of a DV relationship of my own.. the last time i actually thought he was going to kill me. DF asked why I stayed for so long.. I simply said I didn't have the confidence to leave. He had beat it out of me. I was too scared to leave what if he got worse. All I had was a piece of paper to say he couldn't come near me. That piece of paper doesn't help. Sometimes it makes it worse.

I'm so sorry you've been through this. I think part of the problem is the a piece of paper isn't bullet proof.

The stigma needs to be lifted and this needs to be something we are all mindful of and on the lookout for.

    Thank you.

Thats exactly right they aren't bullet proof unfortunately. However the breaches just get a slap on the wrist so they just keep breaching and breaching.

That's exactly it, they breach the order and nothing happens.

The news was saying 1200 dvo's on the Gold Coast were breached last year I think it was.

    It's really made me sad.

I just feel so helpless. I want to DO something to prevent this but what?

Imagine how many domestic violence incidences have happened today with no one knowing?

My heart aches for so many families right now.
