We actually don't do our fair share, and we can definitely cope with taking more. It's called HUMANITY. Let's pray to god that we are never in the same situation. These are real people, real CHILDREN. How could we turn our backs on innocent children? Every time I see the news my heart aches for those children, and for those mothers...I would be beside myself with fear if I was living there. No food, no healthcare, nowhere safe to rest your head.

I think we CAN cope with taking more. Actually,I know we can. We don't quite do our fair share - we rate 48th I think it is,for refugees per capita. What we do well, (I think personally), is resettling refugees from UNHCR camps - I think we rate 2nd in the world for resettlement numbers? I think we do well in that regard.

Flat out not true with so much proving otherwise. Australia does nowhere near it's fair share.

I have read a few of the states (SA/WA and NSW) have thrown their support to accepting more refugees and doing whatever they need to in order for it to happen. Gives me some hope.

Default **trigger warning** Recent refugee incidents in Europe

For those that think Australia doesn't have the resources; $1.1 billion was spent on off-shore processing in the 2014-15 fiscal year. Another billion anticipated for this coming year.

That money can't be spent actually dealing with your fair share of this crisis humanely? C'mon.

Seriously! Can't cope, what a load of sh!t.
The amount Australia contributes to help refugees is embarrassing.

There are 7 million people who have escaped from Syria and another 4 million who have fled neighbouring countries. That is 11 million people. Almost half our population. To say we are doing enough is ridiculous. In times like this we need to step up, yet Tony Abbott has not even accepted 1 extra refugee during this crisis. How shameful. Instead he has begged for us to be part of air strikes in Syria.

Was anyone listening to FiFi and Dave this morning? The story about the girl who was raped in the offshore detention centre by a worker so badly her stomach bled. And they won't allow her to see her family. And this is happening regularly. So many human rights abuses and the government was to put a law in place silencing staff from speaking about it. The way we are treating refugees is abhorrent. Turning them away and if we do take them in, allow them to be abused and treated like scum. The conditions at our detention centers are abysmal. They deserve better lives. Not to go from one hell to another.

We have the capabilities to take a HUGE amount of refugees in and I'm disgusted that our government is trying so hard to stop it. And equally disgusted that there are people who are backing up these inhumane policies (of not letting them in). Australia is basically a stolen country! And WE are turning people away???! Infuriating.
