    Default New and nervous

    Hello everyone

My name is Krysta, and I'm 41.

Hubby and I are doing IVF. Not because I have a fertility issue myself, but because hubby had a vasectomy some 15 years ago and we were told a reversal was unlikely to be successful.

We had our first stimulated cycle in February and I was put on a massive amount of drugs to induce ovulation after 20+ years on the pill. I made 1 egg which was retrieved but not successfully fertilised.

Our second cycle went a little better. With less drugs I managed to make three eggs which were retrieved. Two were successfully fertilised, one went straight back in fresh but it didn't stick.

My one remaining frozen emby is due to be transferred in on Thursday. We have been told it is a Grade A 'hatching' embryo, but as lovely as that is I know there are no guarantees in this game.

My clinic told me I had a 5-10% chance of the IVF working because of my age. I also have to take Clexane shots and Solone tablets.

I am about 10kgs overweight but am working on that. I walk most days, I eat healthy, I take my vitamins as I should.

Is 41 really THAT old? My Mum fell pregnant naturally at 45.

I don't know anyone who has done IVF. I guess I'm just looking for a little bit of hope.

    Krysta.

Hi Krysta, I wish you the best of luck.

Unfortunately, biologically yes 41 is that old... your mum was very very lucky.

DT75, my Mum was very, very surprised, lol. So were we all, to be honest. Hoping I am equally as fertile now as she was back then!

BIB, thanks for the warm welcome. I'll be sure to pop into the 40+ board.
