Default so confused.... read so many different things... can someone please explain to me..

    Hi all..
    feeling very confused.
we have been ttc since February with no luck.
I have been really slack with the opk testing this month as I had a 'well it's not going to work so what's the point' attitude going on.
my cycles are clockwork 28 days..
i used a clearblue digital dual hormone test on friday which was negative.
sunday noticed cramping, feeling so horny it was almost painful (tmi sorry!) and that cm had gone from thick cloudy ew to thin watery clear egg white..
so peeded on another digital test and got the peak fertility smiley face.
    we dtd sunday and monday.
but not for a week before then.
i have read so many different things.. some websites say you need to dtd BEFORE you test positive or you miss the egg.
as the sperm wont have time to reach the egg before it basically dies.
some say within 12 hours of testing positive..
    feeling so confused.
im guessing that i wouldnt have tested positive on the clearblue digital if i had already ovulated right?
so.. was dtd the day of and after getting a positive opk too late?
did i miss the egg? or lower my chances?
feeling really confused and honestly.. really stupid..
    i really don't understand...
some sites say im ok and some say i'm too late..
    can someone please help me?

Have you tried dtd every second day up until ovulation, then every day for a few days once you get a positive? You probably have but just thought I would suggest it.

I think it's important to be having regular s.ex to make sure there's always a supply there for ovulation.

We conceived DD2 the day my period was due, obviously I ovulated very late that month!

    Good luck!

If you have 28 day cycles then you probably ovulate around day 14 as your LP should be about 14 days long to give your egg chance to implant before your next cycle. I would suggest dtd from cd8 onwards until cd 16 ish (keep using your OPKS). The OPKS will show when you are having your surge which means the egg will be released generally in the next 12 hours.

Also try not to worry too much (I know that's easier said than done!). It took us 13 months to conceive DD and we've been trying since February now for #2 with no luck - although this time around I'm expecting it to take ages so it isn't concerning for me.

it is hard. its so emotional and so hard to 'not worry'

Essentially sperm can live inside your body for up to 5 days (in fertile cm) ... the egg lasts about 24 hrs or so after ovulation, so its a good idea to bd every second day or so around o time - then you dont have to stress about whether or not you caught that right time.

OPK's work by measuring the spike in LH (the hormone which causes ovulation). your LH spikes and this causes the follicle to burst and release the egg ... so ovulation is usually 12 hrs or so AFTER your LH spike.

Remember though that OPK's are not super accurate. Your body always has some LH ... and measuring a spike from your urine isnt exact. Sometimes your body excretes the LH straight away, sometimes not ... sometimes you miss that exact spike (it might only last a few hours).

If you feel like you NEED to know, buy some OPK's online where they are super cheap, and test twice a day during days 11-16 and get to know what your particular spikes look like.

if your cycles are 28 days exactly on a regular basis, its likely that you o on the same cd each cycle. It might not necessarily be day 14, but your luteal phase is usually regular so it is likely to be the same day.

and then if its day 14 ... I would bd day 10, 12, 13, 14, 15. If you happen to miss a day, it will be ok.

    good luck

It took us 11 cycles to get DS, that was with temping and OPK's. Just before our successful cycle we did see a FS. I have a 28 day cycle also and he said to DTD every second day from CD10. The cycle we were successful we DTD on CD11 and CD13.
