    Default Pataks - Butter Chicken

Has anyone else tried the Pataks Butter Chicken simmer sauce?? We tried it tonight and it is awful!!!!!! We normally get the butter chicken paste and it was delicious, but it seems like Pataks only make the awful simmer sauce now! Is anyone else with me here? And does anyone know of a nice butter chicken paste?

Agree with Elijah's mum, it is incredibly easy to make your own!! Pete Evan's has a great recipe, I know some people think it's weird because it doesn't have butter in it (it's Paleo) but it's really yummy. Here's a link if you're interested: https://www.thepaleoway.com/recipe-p...ng/204/?id=204

There's a brand called Asian Home Gourmet - their paste is pretty good (you can get it at Coles or Woolies). It comes in a sachet, not a jar.

I've had it before and I agree, it's pretty gross. As the others have said it's easy to make your own, it's just the initial outlay on spices etc which can be a pain. Otherwise Google Mudgereeba spices and curry blends. They're a local group who make delicious spice blends. I have their butter chicken blend and it's delicious. You can order them online.

    Default Pataks - Butter Chicken

I've adapted this from a Masterchef recipe years ago , it could be hotter but DS loves it so you could put more chilli in if you wanted too
This serves approx 4 people and it re heats really well so I sometimes double it for the next night or lunches

    Chicken marinade:

2 chicken breast ( or about 6 thighs ) cut into strips
    1/2 cup greek yogurt
    Teaspoon fresh grated ginger
    Table spoon garam masala
Mix and refrigerate for at least an hour

    Sauce ingredients

    2 tablespoons butter
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    1 brown onion, finely chopped
    1 teaspoon grated ginger
    2 gloves garlic crushed
1/2 Bunch coriander roots finely chopped
    1/2 bunch Chopped coriander leaves
    1 teaspoon ground turmeric
    2 tablespoons garam Marsala
    2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 chilli seeded, finely chopped ( or chilli flakes)
    1 cup tomato passata (250ml)
    300 ml pouring cream

    Cook the chicken:

Either on bbq or put on a tray and place under the grill until almost cooked through ( 5 mins) I then chop into bite size pieces before putting into the sauce)

    Make the sauce :

Heat butter and oil in a large saucepan over medium heat, add onions, garlic, ginger, coriander root , turmeric, tomato paste, chilli and garam masala, and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until onions are soft. Add passata and cook for 5 minutes or until thickened slightly. Reduce heat to low, add cream and remaining coriander, and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Add chicken and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes or until sauce thickens.

    Serve with rice
