Default What can I get my friend who has cancer?

So as per a previous post, a good friend of mine has cancer (melanoma) and she is going in for major surgery on Wednesday, I am seeing her tomorrow so wanted to get her a little care pack for while she is in hospital. She will be in there for 2 weeks.

I don't have heaps of money but I was going to get her some Lindt chocolates and a couple of magazines, maybe a book and I can't think what else?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    My best friend had melanoma.
I did a care package of funny and sweet things. ..one thing to open a day.
I put dates on them and wrapped them up. So that she had something to put a smile on her face each day.
We had a bit of a quirky sense of humour together so some funny things from the cheap shop made us laugh. I added a tag to each gift that had a friendship quote on it.
Things I wrapped up were. ..
    Chapstick
    Chocolate
    Glow sticks
    Funny book
    Pretty stationery
Those funny toy things like where you add water and 'grow' a fish. Like sea monkeys etc.
    Sparklers
    Whoopie cushion
    Etc etc

Basically just funny stuff mixed in with some creams / etc.

My mum just had a cancer scare but we feared the worst due to family history. I got her a willow tree figurine called Surrounded by Love. It's not overly big or in your face and she could keep beside her bed.

If she's having chemo, be aware that things like shaggy blankets and flowers won't be allowed to be in her room. I reccomend calmex lip balm, maybe an iTunes gift card or similar if she has a tablet, so she can watch movies? Audio books on an MP3 player (maybe you could loan her yours or something?)

Default What can I get my friend who has cancer?

Thanks for all the cool ideas everyone.

No talk of chemo yet but she is having radiation.

    I ended up getting:

An activity set for her 3 yr old son
A puzzle book with all different puzzles for her if she gets bored
    A trashy magazine
    2 boxes Lindt chocolate
    A box of herbal tea
An amethyst stone and clear Quartz point stones
Some poster of calming pictures (waterfall, ocean, etc)

And a card which I'm going to write some bible verses in for healing.

    Hope she likes it

Just want to say what a wonderful friend you are SAgirl your friend is very lucky to have you. I'm sure those things you have brought for her will be much appreciated , as someone who has been in hospital after cancer surgery , I will think your friend will more than likely just want people around her who love her. Just for you to be there will be gift enough. Please let us know how she goes . Best wishes xx
