    Hi mummy12,

congratualtions, I also found out yesterday i am pregnant with Identical twins. Scarey isn't it.

I had had an early scan at 6weeks and there was only one baby! And they rescanned me at 8 weeks due to my obstetric history and I was bewildered when I saw two heart beats.

i guess the most important thing I was told is that when the twins are identical I had to have a detailed US scan to determine if they were sharing the same placenta and / or sac. This makes them MCMO or MCDA twins.

Did is your ob say which? My ob sent me for a detailed scan and they found out.

MCMA are the most risky and next is MCDA which mine are. I was told this is the most important thing to find out and this will determine frequency of appointments. I am having another scan at 10 weeks and harmony testing and as the are sharing the same placenta I wil have two weekly scans ands checkups.

I would kindly suggest an earlier earlier appointment and a detailed early scan as my ob suggests less than 13 weeks, especially if you are doing the new harmony testing too.
Also choose an obstetrician with good experience in MCMA or MCDA twins and deliver in a facility with an excellent NICU,.
good luck and I am hoping to hear from you soon.
    Here to help xx

we are nearly the same gestation... (not sure which date they are going to go by) but will be around 9 weeks on the weekend!.
my husband made me another appointment last week because i was getting too stressed worrying about what i was meant to do re scans etc.
i had another scan today (they didnt tell me to get it for a few weeks, but i couldnt wait) and they are MCDA one placenta, 1 chorion and 2 amnion. i have only seen gps so far as i live in a regional area and they need to refer me to the bigger hospital in the next town, but not sure when that is happening!
the dr i saw last week told me no point in the combined nt screening or harmony test, but i see there are differing opinions of it all?
    oh and CONGRATS!

    I am due with baby 2 and 3 April 3rd 2016.
I am currently 15 weeks along and had pelvic pain which has been eased by seeing a physio and a support belt.

An influx of twins - yay ! congratulations ladies, even though it is rather scary.....

I am now 23w with DC DA twins - which means fraternal, each in their own sac and with their own placenta. I was very relieved to hear all that but wasn't suprised as mine is an IVF pregnancy and 2 embryos were transferred. I was even more relieved to make sure there were only 2 and none had split.

I am also on fortnightly OB appts and scans (I am 46 & have developed hypertension) which is good it means you can basically watch them grow !

One of my twin pregnancy worries was the potential weight gain as I was 10kgs over my preferred weight when I started and everyone kept (keeps) telling me how big I am going to get. I found this calculator which might be of interest to you so you can keep track of where you can expect to be at each week.

Good luck ladies with your pregnancies.

    Default Scans

    Hi everyone ,

Regarding scans. We have MCDA twins on board so I thought I'd let those with mcda twins know what I have been told I need to do re scans.

My obstetrician says they have a 15% chance of twin to twin transfusion as all MCDA twins do. As such he had told me that we have to be scanned two weekly from 16 weeks and possibly weekly from 26 weeks . I hope that helps with scan frequency. Mummy12 if you are regional you will have to be referred to a centre that specialises in scanning twins. This may mean travelling a lot depend g on where you live?

Regarding Nuchal scans- it is a standard of care in Australia and ALL pregnant woman have this at 10-13 weeks with the blood tests too. I am surprised that your GP says not to have this??? Unfortunately MCDA twins have a higher rate of congenital anomalies and chromosomal problems so it is imperative you have this scan - at least for piece of mind. Id be asking your gp if he has ever looked after MCDA twins and if possible transfer to complete OB care.

Hope this helps with scan frequency and planning. Our Nuchal scan is on 27th October and due to my age I'm paying for harmony testing too.

Hi twin mums to be! Just wanted to stick my head in and say hi, and share my experiences from the post pregnancy side of the fence - I have 10 week old DCDA boys. I had a dream pregnancy and was induced at 38 weeks 2 days, boys were born vaginally 4 mins apart, twin one head first, twin 2 feet first. It was a great birthing experience and I was walking around an hour later.

You will love having twins, we are loving it and it is nowhere near as hard as everyone scared us into believing, so I thought I'd share (I was desperate for someone to be positive about having twins when I was pregnant!).

Good luck and if I can help with anything/answer any questions just yell xx

Thanks MrsA2B, it is great to hear a good birthing experience. I think twins will be amazing and as each week goes on I am getting more excited. Good luck with your boys.

I also think our twins will be an amazing experience but there is a part of me that is also concerned about coping with the whole thing. I had post natal depression when the adrenalin wore off after our first child, I'm worried about that combined with twins and a two year old, but then I'm not too worried because I know we have a tonne of family and friends who would drop everything to come and help out if we asked it.

    Hi Ladies,

Sadly our twins passed away at 10 weeks and we delivered them yesterday,. They actually were MCMA twins and they on ultrasound were holding hand buds even though they had passed away.

I wish you ladies all the best and hope you get all the scans and blood tests (which incidentally are extremely reliable in MCDA twins) necessary.

Sadly that's our fertility journey over. im 41 and already have two beautiful girls who i cherish and am thankful for.

    all the best ladies.
    Signing out
    Gampa.
