Got my Secret Japan book and some Derwent watercolours and had a few minutes to try them out this evening - was actually really relaxing, especially using the watercolours wet because you need to concentrate and go fairly slow. Not sure how much time I'll get to spend on it but even just 10 minutes a day would be beneficial. Will share a pic when I have something to show.

How do watercolour pencils work @InWatermelonSugar? I'm not sure I'd have the patience for them if they require you to go slowly.

These aren't the watercolours @AdornedWithCats but they are watercolourish (the Inktense):

My latest few. Think I need to get more colours in the artist pens I'm getting quite bored of the limitations.

They're just like regular pencils but you either dip the end of the pencil in water or brush over the page with water before or after colouring, depending on the effect you want. It means you can mix colours for more variation, and it gives a more vivid, deeper colour. I suppose the slowest part is the dipping of the end in the water, being careful not to get too much water on it, so you could speed up the process by using the brush method, but I don't think that would work for the minuscule detail work I was using it for last night.
