Default Gastro recovery food for bub?

DS (12mo) has just been discharged from hospital after being admitted for rotavirus. He's been on & off a drip since Thursday but I think he's past the worst of it. He's been on clear fluid only but as he's feeling better he's starting to complain (loudly!) from hunger.

We can start to slowly reintroduce formula tomorrow.

Any tips on the best way to build him back up? Food suggestions? I made a basic meal of chicken breast poached in homemade stock with risonni and he seemed to like that (and it didn't aggravate the diarrhea).

He has lost a bit of weight so I'm expecting a very hungry baby as he starts feeling better!

Poor bubba! Glad to hear he seems to be on the mend. Maybe bland, plain things? Toast, crackers? Maybe think about things you would feel like after being sick, and give him that? Hope he's all better soon ☺

No experience with rotavirus, but when my kids have had gastro we use the BRAT diet when they start eating again. Banana, Rice, Apple / Applesauce and Toast. It's a good starting point as they are "binding" foods so will help to calm the diarrhoea. They are also plain / mildly flavoured so not too much for the stomach. As long as you go for plainer foods that aren't too high in fibre or salt (if fluid intake is low you don't want to be adding salt into the body), you should be right.

I started him back on a little formula this morning and he was very happy about it! He also had some toast. No more diarrhea (yet). I'll give him some more chicken/pasta for lunch.

My poor little man is so skinny.
