I agree with the 0.00 blood alcohol for driving that way we eliminate the guess work of 'am I ok to drive? Have I had too much?' It's clear if you've had any alcohol you shouldn't be driving. However, as others have said, I don't think someone who had a glass of wine with a meal several hours before driving should be penalised the same as someone who is completely hammered. There should be a sliding scale of penalties so that blowing up to .05 would be similar to receiving a speading fine with demerit points. Anything over .05 should be a greater offence. And while we're on the subject, they really need to increase the penalties. The legal system is far too tolerant at the moment- these things are not just an honest mistake.

I haven't said anywhere that people are selfish or irresponsible and I don't feel that way about people that drive within the limit.

I do think it's interesting though that some people here have said that they wouldn't drive with any alcohol in their system with their own kids in the car, so doesn't that indicate acknowledging some sort of responsibility to others?

But yeah, I am a kind of 'greater good of society' kind of chick. Guilty as charged :-)
Nope not you specifically, there were a few people talking along the same lines. ☺️ And it's fine - great, even! - in theory to suggest it's about the greater good, it's just that I don't feel that me having a drink with dinner is to the *detriment* of society, which is kind of the inverse of that reasoning. Maybe I'm being prickly and defensive because I quite enjoy my quarterly glass of wine with a nice dinner. 😆

I don't drink so it matters none to me what the limit is but I don't believe lowering the limit will help. The people getting behind the wheel in these fatal accidents wouldn't give a rats as to what the limit is, clearly they have little to no regard and choose to drink drive anyway. I don't believe it will lower road fatalities, drugs are just as much a problem as alcohol as is quite frankly stupidity and arrogance behind the wheel.

    Its a hard one

personally, I do not drink even 1 if I am going to drive within 3 hrs - but that is because I know that alcohol tends to affect me and impairs my judgement which is not ok when driving.

BUT .. I agree with others that 0.00 is simply not practical.

I would probably be ok with 0.02 - so a general guideline of at least 2 hrs between drinking a glass of wine at lunch and driving home.

Is be happy to see 0.00 for everyone. Makes it easy then in that there's no wondering how many is too many etc. it's such a hard thing. I watch those rbt shows and it seems like s huge variation in what different people can drink and be under or over limit. 0 would be safest easiest way.
I personally don't drink any if I'll be driving as I just feel like even one drink goes to my head.

This is one of the reasons I'd like to see zero; zero means zero. It doesn't mean maybe one or maybe two, or maybe even three if you're 6"4 and weigh 120kgs and you've eaten a 3 course meal. It just means zero. We all know what zero means.

But Australia loves a drink, so it won't happen.

I think 0.00 is impractical due to the fact some foods and medications have an alcohol component.

How would you feel if you found out their was a choc brandy ganache on your cake from desert and got into a car and registered 0.01?

    This happens quite often.
