Default Desperate for advice!: First IVF cycle- day 6 low estrogen 1 follicle. Any hope?

Hi there I am desperate for advice and to hear anyone else's similar experiences. This is our first cycle of IVF. I am on 225 dose of gonal-f and had my first ultrasound and blood test yesterday (which was my 6th day of injections.) they could see one 12mm follicle and four small ones on my right ovary and they couldn't 'find' my left ovary (for the record I definitely have one!) my estrogen came back at only 335. Clinic called me and said doc has said to tell us this may not be a good cycle and it looks like there will only be one follicle as the others should be showing by now. We were told it is up to us if we cancel. I called the specialist and we are going in this afternoon but I have been so upset and confused. I just don't know if there is a chance that follicles may improve or? I asked if we could up the dose of gonal-f but was told not this cycle. I also started the injection (as advised) to prevent ovulation yesterday. My background: We have been trying for almost two years. I am almost 39, partner's sperm is fine, I have two teenage children from my first marriage. Have had all tests including tubes and uterus checked. Only thing that came back was low AMH at 2.6. I go to acupuncture once a week, I ovulate by myself, had 5 cycles on half dose clomid (to help boost things)& was producing two good size follicles. Really hope you can respond I am keen to hear anyone's experiences. Thank you so much for taking time to read this!

    Hi there !!

I don't know if I'll be any help, but I'm 39 with low AMH (was like 1 or below when I tested last). I don't know much about low estrogen but I've always had low egg numbers (usually 1-2) and my left tube likes to play hide & seek too.

I have done 12 IVF cycles, 11 BFN and number 12 was my success. I only had 1 egg retrieved, fertilised and transferred. I still can't believe I am pregnant, 35 weeks today. I pinch myself every morning and feel like I'm dreaming. I'm not convinced until I'm holding bubs in my arms!!

Please don't lose hope & don't give up. I would still go ahead with egg pick up, you have nothing to lose, so go for it I say. And good luck xxx

Thank you so much for replying and sharing your story! Huge congratulations on your pregnancy!!!! I hope to get more of an idea of options after seeing the doc today but have psyched myself up for IVF and have sorted time off etc so we may go ahead even if there are only a few follicles. No sure about with one though. Thank you again for sharing! I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly, am so happy for you!

Thank you for your kind words.

I hope you don't have to go through as many cycles as me to get your BFP. Have a chat with your doc and see how you go. Trust me, you only need one egg. You just never know. I hate living with regret and wondering "what if".

I did forget to mention that I was diagnosed with Thyroid issues and pre-diabetes when doing my 12th cycle, that may have affected the outcome. My FS also conducted the transfer via ultrasound so he pinpointed the exact spot where the embryo was to go. Plus I lost around 6 kilos. I don't know, but something went right for us this time that's for sure.

I really hope all goes well for you. Sending positive vibes xxx

So we only had one follicle after going back to specialist for another scan and blood test so cycle was cancelled he has doubled the dose of gonal-f now and I am praying that works and that we get at least a few follicles. Will be back in a bit over a week to start injections again.

I kept doing gonal-f and blood test tracking and just did timed intercourse. Didn't need trigger as surged by myself.

A cancelled cycle is devastating... I had 2 due to my estrogen levels dropping. Sorry yours was cancelled 😢

I know I'm late to this thread - where are you at now?

Hey there! Thank you for responding. I'm now on day 9 of a second cycle (day 8 of gonal-f) but we are looking at it possibly being cancelled again 😕 This time my dose of gonal-f was doubled (450.) but it still looks as though we only have 2 good sized follicles. Deciding now whether to cancel - I have another scan and blood test tom so will see what that says and decide I guess. Half of me says go ahead and try and the other half says cancel and try high dose of meds. So heart breaking 😟 Have you had any luck since your two cancelled cycles? So sorry to hear you have had to go through this. IVF is quite a journey isn't it!
