This is an addition to this thread mixed with a vent. Decided to try a lamb shanks recipe from the SCC book 1. It said 4 hours on high then 2 on low. Well I've got news for them I'm sitting at around 8.5 on high and it's not quite done. Dinner was a fail and the recipe was.... Awful in my opinion. What a waste of meat, effort and anticipation all day. Even after adding a little of this and a little of that trying to improve the flavour. Its now 915 and this is still in my slow cooker in an attempt to save it.

That seems like an awfully long time for lamb shanks to cook. Maybe your SC is playing up?

That's a crazy long time to still be going. I found out the hard way a couple years Ago, put everything on when I went to work and came home to half cooked dinner. Slow cooker was no more

Nope. It's working perfectly fine. The temps are there but it was full to the brim and whilst the 6 hours were enough for the food to be technically cooked, everything was still tough and firm. It's taken the extra time to start to really soften everything up. In fact, my slow cooker usually cooks everything fast and I have to reduce cooking times!

My slow cooker is fine! It was definitely up to temperature. It was just too much in there I think for everything to really soften and start to fall apart. I'm astounded, this is the first recipe that has given this Sc any trouble.

@HeavenBlue sorry to hear the lamb shanks were a fail. I hate it when you look forward to something all day and it has all the right ingredients for it to be delicious but fails!

I was a little skeptical when I was making it. I thought the recipe was a bit simple... But then I thought.. It made it into a book so surely I'm wrong and it's nice. After some extra time cooking it did come a little better I have to admit. I'm going to reheat it this afternoon in the slow cooker for dinner tonight so it doesn't go tough again. I think all the vege the recipe called for plus 4 big lamb shanks were just too much for such a short cooking time. I'm currently pregnant so the dinner fail was enough to reduce me to tears!! Lol.
