I'm a really high strung person and when I'm stressed or have a lot to do, the muscles where my right shoulder blade is always starts aching. And when I'm shivering from cold, my lower back starts hurting, too. What I found that helped me was going to the gym and doing weights to strengthen my back and shoulder muscles. It really helped a lot, and not to mention, it was great down time. Even just going on weekends, my whole body changed. I became much stronger and my back pain wasn't nearly as bad as before I started going.

Maybe this could be an option?

Don't take this the wrong way please....but perhaps it's your anxiety tensing up your muscles?? Is that a possibility and that's why no one can actually see anything physical going on?

My mum is very 'stressy'. So much so that she suffers from chronic ulcers in her stomach and acid reflux because she cannot relax or calm down. She's had it for 25years.

Because of the tension, neck is rock hard, there is so much tension and coupled with heavy lifting etc, she is unable to walk.

She could go to 1million different health practitioners but it's all the same story, she needs to relax and calm down. On days where she is calm, she feels much better.

Could this possibly be your issue?

Maybe it is anxiety related. Im doing my best to get it under control but its not a quick fix.

Ive contacted a specialist pain doctor, left him a message so hopefully he gets back to me soon.

I've got anxiety and I constantly get sore necks. Not saying that's what it is though.

Have you heard back from the specialist yet?

If you're still in pain after seeing a revolving door of medico's then it's probably one of the following:

    1) exceptionally bad luck - all the people you have seen just haven't been up to standard

    2) you haven't given each specialist long enough and/or haven't been following their recommended treatment closely enough (I have been to physio's before and depending on the muscle problem it can take 3-6 months to rectify, with exercises once or twice per day, and visits every 2 weeks).

    3) the problem isn't physical. And Focusing on your anxiety may help.

Either way it sounds like a sucky situation for you - I hope things improve.

What are your thoughts in the links between your pain and your anxiety? Many of us have stated that the two are definitely linked, but do you believe this too?

By trying all types of therapies is like treating the symptom, not the cause, and this isn't the way to recover.

What treatment are you currently undergoing for your anxiety? How do you think it's going? Maybe some hubbers who have been through anxiety treatment or currently are can guide you how to help the anxiety treatment along, rather than getting advice on what neck pain treatments are available.
