Default Question on car hire and child seat?

We are taking a fligh for our holiday and hiring a car. Do I take the option of the car seat? Or should I bring our one? DS is 5 and it looks like they will only provide a basic booster seat. We have one of those maxi rider ones. DS is only little (height wise).

See if there is a hire for baby close by to the airport, they will have better seats, know how to install them and meet you at the airport. Or look at taking your seat on the plane for your son to sit in. I wouldn't checking one as luggage - I don't trust baggage handlers!

Default Question on car hire and child seat?

We hired a child seat through the rental car company in Cairns. I was really disappointed with it, very basic, old & scabby. DD hated it!
If we go on another holiday involving a hire car I would be looking very seriously as bringing my own car seat. We took out travel insurance so hopefully if it got damaged in the hold it would be covered? Might be something to look into with your insurance company.
If the baby hire company meets you at airport & fits the seat definately go that way!

We are actually going to cairns! We will have enough baggage room to take the car seat. I have seen people at airports take them before. And that's what I was worried about that we would end up getting a basic, dirty, old one.

I like taking my own when I can because the straps are at the right height. I don't want to be in an airport car park rethreading the straps to the right height.
