    No way, I wouldn't be happy at all! Your DS was upset about no milk but FOB waited for him to go to sleep then go get it? Not on! My DH works away half of the year and I would still wake all 4 of my girls up to go get something if it was important.

    I echo the sentiments of BabyG4, whilst I definitely know what it's like to 'need' to go out with a DH who is often away for very long periods of time, I would never entertain the thought of sneaking out whilst the kids are asleep, not even around the corner. It's certainly an embuggerance having to take all 4 kids out of the car for what might be one thing, but I couldn't leave them home alone like that, and hence to answer the OP, if Dh did that, I would be mighty peeved at him for having no foresight (in this case, remembering to have enough milk on hand).

    @LoveLivesHere I save everything :-)

    Just an update, I waited til we were in the car driving among the pretty country roads and said 'just something to think about - what if something had happened to you when you went to get milk last night?'

    FOB's face fell and he got very upset and said he hadn't thought of that. He said he had felt very guilty that he let DS down by not being prepared and felt like a bad father so he was wanting to make it up to him in case he woke in the night.

    I said we all fall short sometimes and not be so hard on himself (and others!), and suggested the powdered milk thing to him.

    Thank you all for your support and suggestions. It's nice to have a bit of a barometer...

    I'm glad the conversation went well. Hopefully it was just a blonde moment.

    Absolutely disgusting! I've Never done it and never would, and I have 3 children 9,4 and 1 and my partner works away and I pretty much have no family or help.
    If I need something I take all the kids with me no question! I've never ever considered leaving them at home alone.
