@Tahli - my donor was 28, possibly 29 by now as I've had her on hold for nearly 6 months. We got 16 eggs. Kay

Yeah my cutoff would be about 28. I'm pretty unhappy with my Aust donor result, 5 embies, no pregnancy. She was 34 so I was adamant it was young or none from then on. My CT donor is 24 which I'm very happy about, yet strangely not pregnant from her first two perfect blasts. Hoping the last two are the ones..

Tahli, ask CFC for their sperm donor list. Here you usually get the choose of 4 or 5 but over there its about 100...huge list. With the boys, I found alot smoke marijuana which shocked me.

Kay - 16 eggs is awesome! Congrats!

Tahli - I originally set a cut off date at 30 but after speaking to my FS, changed it to 26, but preferably as young as possible. I chose our donor more on looks (either like me or my son) and personality (what was in her profile) as well as family medical history which was very important, and age (she was 22). We narrowed our search down to 5 or so and gave each points based on the above criteria with our donor getting the most points. It was the easiest way to finally make a decision on THE one. I'm loving the fact that so many people are telling me our new son looks so similar to both me and my older son (OE).

    Go August girls!!

Just got fert report: of the 16 eggs retrieved, they injected 15, and 11 have fertilized. They will call me Monday with an update on how they're growing.

What does that mean? I wonder whether sperm was not top quality (we have minor male issues and therefore used PICSI). Any views on whether this ratio (75%) is normal/good/bad??

I didn't have a conscious age cutoff - I focussed on eliminating medical issues that are in my family first then proven donor/parent status, then loose colouring similarities and then age. Having said that I ended up with a 25yo donor and I don't think I would have gone with a donor over 30 no matter how 'perfect' they might have been on paper. Also, I sent a recent photo of me to the agencies with my 'criteria' and they would send back their opinion of donors that supposedly looked similar to me (who knows if it works but it is the closest I could get to seeing their adult appearance !).

Re Donor Sperm - all anonymous, young and straight from CFC. (You can get a log in and check it out yourself. Look around the CFC website and it will take you to a site called Cape Cryo.)

Re smoking - I was adamant that I didn't want smokers but had a great deal of difficulty in finding donors like that so I asked my CFC Dr what his thoughts were and he said in young donors a light smoker wouldn't impact quality. Going through the ED profiles in a range of agencies, I certainly found some had more smokers than others (or should I say fewer non-smokers) but I also noticed that over a 12 month period that proportion changed so I think it is more a representation of the SA population of that age than anything else. Fortunately I found both egg and sperm donors that didn't smoke and I was happy about that.

    Good luck with your 2WW.

Yep that's a great rate. Of our 24 retrieved we got 12 fertilised so you're doing well !
