    Hi Everyone,

Just a quick one from me tonight. I firstly wanted to thank you all for your support and encouragement over the last few weeks of ups and downs (not to mention the years before that too!).

We would also also love to announce the early but thankfully safe arrival of our baby boy last Wednesday 29th July. He was born at exactly 37 weeks gestation by emergency csection. We both had a few ups and downs but are all well now and totally and utterly in love with our little man!! It makes everything we have been through soooo worth it!! Xxxx

Congratulations Mardicharli! It is wonderful to hear such great news (not the emergency c-section), but that you and the baby are doing well.

AFM, please move me to the November roll. I am dealing with some delays in getting the embryos to Toronto, but I hope it will all work out.

Just throwing this out there. I have 10 embryos, my RE here thinks I have at least three more tries. I have lined up an experienced shipper. I just need my sperm donor from CFC to test for Hep A Antigen (this is a Canadian requirement, I don't think it is required in the States, not sure about Australia). CFC is trying to contact him and do the test (they really are trying to get these embryos shipped).
Would you wait a few months to have the embryos shipped here? Or just fly over in the next few months. Keep in mind, I believe I caught the infection that caused my miscarriage on the flight home from Cape Town.

I can't say much positive about my flying kangaroo experiences even though I'm a very frequent flyer with them. I avoid them as much as possible. I won't even speak aboutvthe time I was going yo NZ from Bris (via SYD) for a conference and we were on first flight out of Bris and we had to return to gate- they tried to tell us to come back the next day- not even one ounce of assistance. It was only my persistence and continual grumbling and finally calls to Qantas Club got 4 of us onto flights via Auckland and into Queenstown an hour late for our professional meeting (we should have been there the day before) but not a day late and totally missing it. Please don't think they will be helpful because on many occasions they haven't been.

In Seattle recently they booked my transfer to LA with another airline and even though it was business class I was not allowed to use that airline lounge. Almost inconceivable to me.
I guess everyone has different experiences - I fly regularly for work (sometimes multiple times in a week) and I haven't had a bad experience with them - they have always done everything they could to help..

Jetstar and Virgin on the other hand..a whole different story..

Canuck - it is hard. Personally, I would be on the plane and doing it in CT as I wouldn't want the inevitable risks of moving the embryos and CFC have such a good success rate. But I understand your concerns after last time. Perhaps you could do something different re the flight to make the idea of it less stressful eg do a stop over to break the journey, upgrade a class ??? If I remember correctly, you had food poisoning didn't you ? Perhaps you take all your own food on the journey and a mini alcohol cleanser thingo so you aren't eating others' food and can wipe down any surfaces you may touch (toilet doors, seat arms, etc).

Mardicharli - big fat congratulations ! Sounds like it wasn't exactly fun but everyone is OK now which is the most important thing. Enjoy parenthood !

KMP - sounds like you have had some issues with Qantas. In contrast I fly with them at every opportunity - my only gripe is the diffculty in getting point upgrades. Jetstar on the otherhand I avoid if I possibly can .... Funny how we all have different experiences with different airlines. I suppose as long as we each find at least 1 we like - that is all that matters.

Canuck, I think I'd be heading back to Cape Town rather that moving embryos around. I'd second what Cathy said, perhaps a big meal before flying, take some snacks if your own on board etc. Like instant noodles, fruit, nuts etc. How long is the flight? I think you were incredibly unlucky to catch that strain of food poisoning and I really feel for you. Can you fly with a different airline to disassociate with your last experience?

    Em xx

Wow, congratulations @mardicharli - enjoy everything you have worked so hard for (aka your little man ) @Canuck, I would be going back to CT too, rather than muck around moving them - although I'm not sure how risky that is. You'd have to be VERY unlucky to have something like that happen again, but agree, take your own food, hand wipes etc and leave nothing to chance. Perhaps tell them when you are checking in that you've had a really bad gastro/viral/influenza infection and it would be in the best interests of other passengers if you had NOBODY sitting beside you lol. worth a try ?
