Hi Hopeful1975 you are actually on the roll call under the BFP heading. Some weeks ago someone else couldn't see the entire roll call. I'm not entirely sure why? I cut and past the the list on my lap top and don't use the BUBHUB app to do this. Maybe something to do with viewing it via the app

Cathy69 - what a relief. No wonder you didn't sleep well. I've been a bit anxious this week. Trying to stay really positive but those little negative thoughts pop in now and again (something will go wrong - it always has), so just trying to shove that negativity away!!!
Can you please tell me more about the DNA test. What's that all about and why does it go to the U.S.?
    Cheers

Cathy, I think there are a number of different names for the test depending where you get the Harmony test done. I had it done in Canberra about 18 months ago and it was called Verify I think.

TannyMac, the DNA test is just a blood test from the mother. Because the mum and baby share blood the test can pick up the babies chromosomes in the mother's blood sample and they can test for 3 of the most common trisomies including Down's, as well as abnormalities in the sex chromosomes (for instance an extra y or X chromosome). You also have the choice to find out the sex of your baby. The test can be done as early as 10 weeks (back when I did it anyway) and the results take about 10 days because the testing is conducted in the U.S. It is highly accurate and non evasive so there is no risk to the baby like there is with an amnio. It is expensive and not covered by Medicare, when I did it 18 months ago it cost about $900 but it might have gone down a bit since then.

I don't think they can do it for twin pregnancies though @Miss Sagi can shed some light, I know she went through this

I was recommended to have the harmony test as my 12wk scan score came back with twin b as borderline high risk for downs. 1 point less in the score and she would have been low risk. Anyway, with twins they cant tell you the sex of the babies and they cant give you individual results for each bub. The results are amalgamated. Personally for this reason I wouldn't recommend anyone with twins have the test unless absolutely necessary after your scan. I found even the scan scoring results aren't really made for twins either as they don't take into account your blood results are going to be a lot higher than a single pregnancy and this can skew the results as well.
The price has come down, I think I paid $430.

Pinkshootingstar, so glad to read your going back next month. Your determination and perseverance will pay off luv.

I can't believe how many twin pregnancies there are this year!

Patsy, forgot to say that mardicharli and I have the same OB. He is very conservative andcrisk averse. Keeping in mind mardicharli has been hospitalised recently and has had a couple of complications, high blood pressure etc.
When I had my first scan with him, he told me he doesn't let twins go for more than 37wks and only delivers them by C section....no discussing it, that was it.
I guess this is the luxury of having a private OB and also he gets to plan everything on his calender this way.
Hang in there luv, I'm sure everything will be fine. If you've had any complications with your pregnancy make sure you bring up at your appt so they can try and get you in earlier. Bloody publuc hospitals and their waiting lists....didn't think they actually had one for births. Although its costing me a fortune, I'm glad I'm going private for this reason and consistency with the 1 person at every appt.

" Does the Harmony test tell me about all chromosome abnormalities or other problems with my baby?

The Harmony test does not give information on other chromosomal abnormalities or genetic problems.

If your 11-13 ultrasound shows an increased nuchal translucency (more than 3.5 mm) or major defects involving the baby’s heart, brain or other organs, the risk for a less common chromosome problem will increase. If this happens, your doctor may suggest you have chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis.

The Harmony test does not give information on physical or structural problems with your baby, such as heart or brain abnormalities, and it does not assess the growth or size of your baby."

"The Harmony test has a higher detection rate for trisomy 21 than combined first trimester screening (nuchal translucency scan plus maternal serum screening).

    The Harmony test identifies:

99% of the fetuses with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome)

97% of fetuses with trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome)

92% of fetuses with trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome)

The Harmony test, and all other forms of NIPT, is an advanced screening test rather than a diagnostic test. It does not detect all cases of trisomy 21, 18 or 13."

Quoted from Advanced Womens Imaging. Website of a specialist sonographer who was an Ob/Gyn.

Unfortunately there are literally thousands of genetic problems and many yet to be discovered. For other conditions such as autism there are no tests. I've always taken everything one day at a time. Nothing in medicine is 100% and I would debate this with my FS when I was using my own eggs. It's important to understand why you'd have the test firstly, and that other tests may be required regardless of the Harmony test results.
