Default What names are off limits?

We are struggling so much with names for our baby due in November. We don't know what we are having, so need a mixture of both.

Everytime we think of a name we like, we seem to know someone who has named their child that name.

So my question is, what names are 'off limits'. For example, off limits to us so far is family, work colleagues, extended family, neighbours, friends and mutual friends of close friends.

Do you extend further? Should I avoid names that people I went to school with (but don't have anything to do with) have named their child?

Is there an unspoken rule about naming children that I should know about?

Family and best friends children were off limits for us but that was easy, we didn't like any of them!
If you love a name just go with it

Wow that's a big exclusion list! For us it was only friends and family. Any friends of friends, acquaintances, colleagues etc were fair game IMO. You only get so many opportunities to name children. Not to use one you love because a friend of a friend or a colleague you may not be working with in the future used it, wasn't a reason not to use it for us.

I didn't even know names were off limits!! I guess we wouldn't have used one of our nieces/nephews but that's it.

So that was 5 names off limit.

Names of my close friends kids I generally consider off limits. Having said that, if my belly babe was a girl we were considering the name Violet, which has been used by one of my good friends. It was a name we considered for my oldest and I didn't meet this friend until 2 weeks after my oldest was born. She is quite precious about her kids names though, so I would have felt the need to 'ask' her first.

I find it really hard too, I can't name my child anything that I know anyone else with that name. It just doesn't seem like "their" name, it feels like I took it. It's a hard one! Family, close friends and close friends children are the definite outs.

The only names off limit to me are ones in the family who are still around unless its a middle name. I have a fav name for a boy and a girl and one of my friends has named her kids both(she had them first) but it definately wont stop me using one of the names(boy name) if i am lucky enough to ever have any more children.

Just immediate family. But then if it was my already chosen name I'd probably still use it.
