Default Moving to Adelaide - would love some opinions please on Northern Suburbs :)

We are moving to Adelaide from interstate and I have been doing some research into some areas .

We are looking into either Mawson Lakes, Golden Grove or Greenwith to live and would love for anyone who lives in those areas to share what you like/dislike about the suburb

And also - the high schools in the areas. Particularly Golden Grove HS and The heights school

If you prefer to Private message me regarding the high schools etc I would really appreciate any comments

    Thanks so much

Personally I wouldn't live in the northern suburbs at all....but that's just me!

It might be helpful to mention where you live now so if people know of it, they can suggest "similar" suburbs?

What's important for you to be near? & are you looking north for a specific reason (ie near work or whatever?).

Golden Grove High School is meant to be okay. I went to one of the Peivate Schools on that campus and never heard of any drug problems etc. The heights on the other hand - I would never send my kids there.

I'm wondering too why these suburbs. There's nothing exactly wrong with them but they wouldn't be my first choice. I'd actually go Greenwith or Golden Grove over Mawson lakes.

What do you look for in an area? This might help me make some suggestions.

Agree with others, is there particular reason for you guys to live in those areas. The suburbs you mention are not bad, good areas. However, it would be hard to find good public high school in those areas. If you have to live in those areas for work, is it possible to send your kids to private school like Endevour or Blackfriars if you prefer boys school or St Dominics if you prefer girls schoolhttp://www.endeavour.sa.edu.au/

I have couple of friends who are living in Mawson lakes and surrounding area due to work, their high school age kids are in those private schools.

I think your too far from everything. Like others said, what are you looking for? Are you close to work?
    Where do you live now?

Ok Thanks for your info so far! Interesting replies, will take on board! So where are you all living and what do you like about your suburbs?

We aren't locked into any particular suburb yet but hubby will be working outer Northern suburbs. I was hoping for him not to have to travel too far to get to work and back so that was the main reason for thinking of those suburbs I mentioned

We are in ACT - great spot new area, awesome public schools, literally 5 min to everything! Great shops, Fabulous parks, easy transport, low crime etc pretty much everything we need so sounds like I may have quite some adjusting to do

    Looking forward to more replies
    Thank you!!

This isn't quite the northern suburbs but have you considered gawler? If your hubby is working in the outer northern suburbs it would be an easy commute via the new expressway. There's the local public high school, a private high school and a large number of kids go to kapunda high school which is country but there's a bus that drives through gawler for these students, it's about half an hour commute each way.

This is where I grew up there's new areas similar to where you are (I think we may live in the same area of the ACT) and I went to kapunda high school which is one of the best high schools in the state.

Do you have a large car? Just asking because I find it difficult to manoeuvre my dual cab ute through Mawson Lakes. Car parking spaces are so tight that it's ridiculous. I'd be looking at Gawler too as a pp mentioned

Off topic but my parents went to Kapunda High School and both my extended families grew up in Kapunda at various times with a lot of them attending Kapunda High and speak very fondly of the area. My aunt and uncle lived in Gawler, it was lovely around there. They had a beautiful house and was not too far of a drive to and from Adelaide itself.

When we lived in Adelaide we were near Modbury/Tea Tree Gully. It's a couple of suburbs over from Mawson Lakes, there's a Westfield and for memory the schools aren't too bad. We were only in primary school there so I can't speak for the high schools. We still have some family living in the area.

The beauty of Adelaide is that it doesn't really take to too long to get anywhere. Even if you were looking around those suburbs to live, there are still plenty of schools that you can easily get to. I guess it depends too if you will be working and where that will be. I'm not sure what traffic is like in the ACT, but "peak hour" in Adelaide is like an extra 50 cars on the road compared to peak hour in Brisbane (which is truly horrendous, though nothing on Sydney). If we moved back to Adelaide I would have no hesitation living further afield simply because your commute time won't vary dramatically depending on the time of day.

It is a beautiful city and DH and I have floated the idea of moving back there.
