I am really careful with leftovers - especially chicken so we would pretty much follow that guide anyway

I used to work in a chicken takeaway place, it's 5 days for chicken... I would just hear it extra hot on the last few days :-)

I did too! I agree, we always kept chicken for 4 days thrown out on 5th. I think the 2 day rule is pretty hilarious when people will happily eat a chicken roll or sandwich from a shop that is 4 days old without realising.

Isn't there heaps of wastage with 2 day rule?

I hate wasting food so unless there is mould growing on it or it actually smells funny I will eat it.

I do the 2 day rule aswell (worked in hospitality for far too many years to do otherwise)

I generally leave in the fridge for 24 hours & if its not eatten by then I portion and freeze to save on wastage.

Cheese, Milk, Ham, Salad (uncooked fridge items) I keep for much much longer

Nope. I generally just cook what I need, or sometimes there is one serving left that I will have for lunch the next day.

It's not about consuming it in 2 days, so much as freezing what you don't consume within two days.

No because you freeze the rest. Leave out enough for 48H and freeze the rest.

    Yeah we eat or freeze.

And I don't often eat chicken from anywhere I don't know and trust for exactly that reason.
